The Role

We are seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager to own delivery execution and operational rigor within Morningstar’s Central Technology Web Development team, supporting our Corporate Marketing digital ecosystem. The ideal candidate excels at working with engineering leaders and product owners to translate business requirements into clear priorities, visualize work, report status via dashboards, and own delivery commitments.

Position Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 4 days onsite per week)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Own technical delivery execution across one or more cross-functional engineering teams, from planning through release.
  • Serve as the primary Scrum leader, establishing and maintaining effective agile operating rhythms including sprint planning, standups, reviews, retrospectives, and refinement.
  • Coordinate sprint and release planning, managing dependencies, sequencing, and risk across teams and stakeholders.
  • Act as the delivery counterpart to Product Owners, partnering closely to balance scope, priorities, timelines, and capacity.
  • Maintain delivery visibility and transparency through accurate, up-to-date tracking in JIRA and executive-level reporting in Asana or similar tools.
  • Proactively identify delivery risks, bottlenecks, and process breakdowns, escalating tradeoffs early with clear options and recommendations.
  • Ensure backlogs are refinement-ready, facilitating collaboration between product and engineering to achieve shared understanding before commitment.
  • Support engineering teams by removing delivery friction, clarifying expectations, and protecting focus during sprints.
  • Drive continuous improvement of team processes, predictability, and throughput through data-informed retrospectives and experimentation.
  • Partner with QA to coordinate testing strategy, timing, and readiness to support reliable releases.
  • Communicate delivery status, risks, and dependencies clearly to leadership and stakeholders, avoiding surprises and “last-minute” escalations.
  • Reinforce accountability and ownership while fostering a healthy, sustainable team culture.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in project delivery or program management roles leading software engineering teams.
  • Proven experience serving as a Scrum leader or agile delivery owner.
  • Experience supporting distributed or multi-location engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, dependencies, and timelines in complex stakeholder environments.
  • Hands-on experience with delivery tooling — in particular Asana, JIRA, and Confluence.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to surface risks, negotiate tradeoffs, and align diverse groups around clear plans.
  • Experience managing deliveries against fixed marketing milestones and campaign windows.
  • Experience balancing planned sprint work with support requests, hotfixes, and urgent needs.
  • Comfortable working with senior engineers and technical leaders, able to ask the right questions and challenge assumptions without needing to be the technical authority.
  • Strong organizational instincts and attention to detail, balanced with pragmatism.
  • Proven track record of owning delivery commitments and improving predictability, team health, and operational maturity.

Nice to have:

  • Experience building systems for digital marketing, analytics, personalization, or content workflows.
  • Experience supporting teams working with modern frontend frameworks or component-based systems.
