Job Title: Packaging Mechanic
Location: Pickering, ON
Work Hours: 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday to Friday
About the role:
The Packaging Mechanic supports the safe and efficient operation of automated packaging equipment, including machines, conveyor systems, band sealers, and HMIs. This role is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining equipment while assisting with preventive maintenance, life-cycle management, and automation program development. The position includes performing inspections, troubleshooting basic mechanical and automation issues, supporting line changeovers, and ensuring accurate completion of maintenance logs and compliance records.
Responsibilities:
- Operate, monitor, and maintain packaging equipment, including automated machines, conveyor belts, band sealers, and HMIs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of an automation management program, including preventive maintenance and life-cycle requirements.
- Conduct and document regular equipment inspections, escalating issues as needed.
- Support line changeovers, equipment adjustments, and troubleshooting of basic mechanical and automation problems.
- Complete accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and compliance records.
- Follow established health and safety standards, GPP, SOPs, and Health Canada regulations.
- Assist with contractor and vendor work by observing, checking completion of tasks, and reporting any discrepancies to senior mechanics or supervisors.
- Cooperate with the compliance team to confirm equipment capability meets specifications and production requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities to support operational efficiency.
- Support the implementation of documentation workflows for automation maintenance and record-keeping.
Job Requirements:
- Completion of a technical diploma, certificate, or apprenticeship in Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial Millwright, Electromechanical Technician, or related trade is strongly preferred.
- 1–2 years of mechanical automation experience, ideally in cannabis, pharmaceutical, food, or other highly regulated industries.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, packaging processes, and automation equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
- Interest in growing a career in the cannabis industry
Must be willing to undergo a background check in accordance with local laws and regulations. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
