The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is seeking a Supervisor & Senior Financial Analyst to join its Financial Analysis and Reporting team. Reporting to the Manager, this role oversees the day-to-day operations of the unit and supervises two Financial Analysts. The position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, monitoring the University's General Operating Fund budget, and providing strategic financial analysis and reporting. Acting as a financial advisor to senior finance leaders across Faculties and Units, the Senior Financial Analyst also supports system improvements and process enhancements. A strong understanding of University financial policies, procedures, and guidelines is essential.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • An undergraduate degree is a related discipline is required. A major in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
  • Must have a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and remain in good standing. Program. A professional accounting designation is preferred.
  • Four years of directly-related experience in accounting, conducting complex financial analyses, forecasting, and financial reporting is required.
  • Experience with budget oversight and analysis , budget review, and providing recommendations on previously-developed budgets is required.
  • Experience communicating financial information to non-financial staff and faculty is required.
  • Experience advising senior finance staff on financial best practices, policies and procedures is required.
  • Experience working in a complex, integrated computer and information system environment and a working knowledge of computer produced data is essential.
  • Experience designing financial reporting to meet stakeholder needs is essential.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience conducting financial and system training is preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Ability to prepare complex financial information with close attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Must have the ability to process large numbers of documents with speed, accuracy and attention to detail in order to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and public in a diplomatic, firm but tactful manner is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service is required.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
