General Job Description:

  • Code and verify proper authorization of all invoices prior to submission to Octacom and/or THQ Finance
  • Review and adjust coding and process all invoices within Business World
  • Process personal reimbursement requests through Business World for approval and payment
  • Follow-up with vendors regarding outstanding accounts
  • Code all cheques received, prepare and process deposit summaries
  • Prepare and record all daily cash transactions
  • Make regular bank deposits, as per TSA policy
  • Manage accounts payable statements
  • Act as the custodian for petty cash floats and reconcile as required
  • File and maintain all finance records in an orderly manner
  • Track and reconcile all gift cards and bus tickets
  • Donation receipting and distribution, including thank you letter to donor
  • Maintain stats in SAMIS
  • Prepare and submit Element claims
  • Enter hours worked into timesheets in Workday and submit for approval
  • Provide support to the annual Christmas Kettle Campaign and other programs/events organized through London Community Services

  • Develop an understanding of the mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
  • Maintain information in confidence as required
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner
  • Participate in supervision and regular performance reviews/evaluations as required
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
  • Act in the best interest of the employer at all times

Health and Safety

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
  • Responsible to use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer
  • Responsible to report workplace hazards and dangers

Critical Relationship Management

  • Internal: Management/Supervisory staff, THQ Accounting, London Community Services Staff
  • External: Community Partners, Donors, Funders

Managerial Responsibility

  • This position reports directly to the Executive Director

Financial And Materials Management

  • Regular responsibility for minor financial matters
  • Handling of large amounts of cash
  • May collect donations
  • May provide some limited input into new policies and procedures pertaining to the management and stewardship of donors and funders
  • Uses and maintains own organizational assets (computer, phone) in accordance with guidelines
  • Access to personal information

Working Conditions

  • The supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule. Will normally work 5 hours per week, increasing to approximately 13 hours per week during the Christmas season (November, December, January).
  • Normal location of work is at: 310 Vesta Rd., London, ON
  • Limited travel is required for this position (travel to bank for deposits).

Education, Experience, AND Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma with some post-secondary education in accounting and business
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the accounting/finance field, with proven knowledge of standard accounting and financial procedures and processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Teams

  • Demonstrate strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills to effectively handle multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines
  • Self-motivated and disciplined, with an ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision, demonstrating flexibility and follow-up skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) and an ability to work cooperatively, creating a working climate within their team that is positive and mutually supportive
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment and ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality
  • Ability to learn; adapts and utilizes technology and processes quickly
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with proven attention to detail and aptitude for accuracy and thoroughness
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and compliance with, all relevant federal and provincial legislation (e.g. CRA)
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $45,416.03 to $56,770.04 with a maximum of $68,124.04.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
