Behind the scenes, but ahead of the curve: help us develop the next-generation public broadcaster.
Technology & Infrastructure (T&I) is the backbone and the future-forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections — between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.
*A place with purpose.*CBC/Radio-Canada has always been a highly regarded pioneer of media technology. Not just in Canada, but around the world. Today, we are transforming ourselves from a conventional radio and television broadcaster into a modern digital media company. Technology is the driving force. T&I is the team making it happen.
This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.
Your Role
As the leading technical authority within the Technology & Infrastructure (T&I) division, you will work closely with the Accessibility Adviser to ensure our internal digital ecosystem is truly inclusive. You will partner with teams across the entire product life cycle — from initial ideation to ongoing technical support — bridging the gap between compliance standards and high-performing, real-world solutions. By removing technological barriers, you will help create a seamless user experience for all colleagues, directly supporting our commitment to operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Consulting and Project Support
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for project teams, providing guidance from the earliest design and procurement phases.
- Develop functional accessibility requirements and clear acceptance criteria (standard user stories) to lead teams through the delivery process.
- Educate design teams on the core principles of inclusive design and the practical use of assistive technologies.
- Provide Tier 2 technical support to employees, helping them configure and optimize assistive tools such as JAWS and NVDA.
Technical Auditing and Quality Assurance (QA)
- Plan and execute accessibility audits (WCAG 2.2 and EN 301 549) for web platforms, enterprise software and internal applications using both manual testing and assistive technologies.
- Review findings from automated testing tools and prioritize bugs based on severity and user impact.
- Diagnose accessibility barriers, identify probable root causes and produce detailed reports with actionable recommendations for development teams.
- Closely monitor the accessibility remediation process by validating developer fixes in test environments, documenting regressions and ensuring all issues are resolved.
Training, Coaching and Continuous Improvement
- Actively provide daily coaching to teams.
- Design and facilitate hands-on workshops and training sessions for colleagues.
- Work with the Learning & Development team to integrate accessibility into the organization’s official training programs.
- Assess skill gaps within the T&I division.
- Play an active role in curating the Accessibility Portal, creating and updating specialized content to ensure the portal remains a premier reference hub for the entire organization.
Operational Monitoring and Compliance
- Assist the Adviser in monitoring regulatory changes related to the Accessible Canada Act to determine how new requirements affect internal products and processes.
- Stay current with emerging trends in testing tools and assistive technologies to provide strategic recommendations and optimize workflows.
- Identify gaps between current processes and evolving standards, proposing concrete adjustments to meet compliance goals.
- Support procurement decisions by conducting technical accessibility reviews of third-party solutions during tendering processes.
- Maintain compliance metrics and dashboards to help the Accessibility Adviser track overall progress and report to management.
What You Bring
Digital Accessibility Expertise
- Proven experience in digital accessibility, including conducting compliance audits through manual testing, automated tools and assistive technologies.
- Working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, EN 301 549 and other accessibility regulations and standards in Canada.
- Proficiency with evaluation tools (Axe, ARC Toolkit, WAVE, etc.) and assistive technologies (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS, voice command software, etc.).
- Strong understanding of the Accessible Canada Act.
- Passion for supporting and developing new accessibility knowledge and capabilities.
Communication and Influence
- Bilingual (English and French, spoken and written).
- Superior communication and persuasion skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Excellent leadership skills and the ability to work with others.
- Ability to work with teams within and outside CBC/Radio-Canada.
- Creative mindset, initiative and the ability to propose innovative ideas.
Professional Excellence
- Strong ability to organize your workload so as to meet editorial deadlines and handle last-minute requests.
- Proactive nature with a genuine love for tackling complex challenges.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next
step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:
- A mandatory Criminal record check.
- Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
