About the role
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Manufacturing Manager to lead operations at our chemical manufacturing facility in Scarborough, ON. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day production activities while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The Manufacturing Manager will play a key leadership role in driving continuous improvement, optimizing processes, and developing a high-performing team in a fast-paced, technically complex environment.
The primary role of the Manufacturing Manager is to ensure that all of Dextran Products Manufacturing needs are achieved at the highest level of compliance, safety and in as an efficient manner as possible on a daily basis in accordance with all Company requirements and operating standards.
Major Roles & Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Leadership
- Completes manufacturing goals as established with the Managing Director.
- Manages manufacturing staff to meet company objectives.
- Maintains appropriate communication with the Managing Director.
Production Management
- Support and manage Manufacturing Shift Supervisors to ensure:
- Proper inventory levels of all raw materials, packaging materials, components and supplies to support the manufacturing schedule.
- The effective daily operation of the plant in compliance with all company programs.
- Appropriate daily work lists are developed with the Manufacturing Shift Supervisors.
- Works with Direct Reports and the Quality Department to:
- Ensure finished goods meet all current quality standards.
- Deliver to manufacturing supervisors all materials or assurance of all materials necessary to complete all batch production.
Production Planning & Order Fulfillment
- Develops production schedules with the Managing Director and the Production team based on open orders, desired finished goods inventory levels, and projections from customer service/sales.
- Coordinates the scheduling of production related maintenance with the Maintenance department.
- Maintains accurate inventory of all production and shipping related items.
- Assists the Managing Director in scheduling incoming orders and providing delivery dates to customer service.
- Attends shipping meetings and coordinates with Customer Service, Shipping and Receiving and Quality Representative(s) to manage customer needs.
Manufacturing Training
- Evaluate, train, update, enforce and comply with all policies and procedures related to the Manufacturing, shipping and receiving departments.
- Oversees, supports and enforces new manufacturing operator training that is consistent with all company compliance systems.
- Maintains the Manufacturing Operator Level System and provides regular performance reviews of direct reports.
- Reviews, authors and edits standard operating procedures for the manufacturing department.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintains and accepts full accountability and responsibility for all finished goods leaving Dextran Products to ensure compliance with all quality systems and customer expectations.
- Work with Quality Management team to investigate and resolve any discrepancies and/or other quality issues related to manufacturing.
- Oversees warehouse to ensure compliance with all quality systems.
- Coordinate’s batch records with Quality to support open orders, Writes TOI’s for production as needed.
- Reviews documents for the Manufacturing and Quality. Work on implementing Quality system requirements as per IPEC guidelines.
Process Improvement & Development
- Submits recommendations for approval to the Managing Director regarding process improvements and equipment upgrades to support company objectives.
- Provides input for real time data reporting of process parameters.
- Works with Qualification and Validation team for the review and approval of equipment qualifications and process validations.
- Works with Process Development to develop new processes and scale up for validation.
Environmental Health & Safety
- Trains manufacturing staff on safety requirements and practices. Monitors employee behavior to ensure compliance.
- Ensure that all waste generated in the course of assigned job tasks are handled in compliance with Company policy and procedures and local regulation.
Qualifications:
Education:
- A University degree in Engineering, Science or related field or approved equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Five or more years’ production experience with a food, biochemistry and/or pharmaceutical manufacturer with responsibilities for the effectiveness and performance of the manufacturing process and with a working knowledge of filtration systems.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of the following experiences:
- Fermentation, Diafiltration, and Ultrafiltration processes.
- In the, pharmaceutical, yogurt, wine-making, food, flavor, fragrance industries or manufacturers using a yeast extraction process.
- With production planning and managing inventory.
- With a cGMP compliant manufacturer.
Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and abilities;
- Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and plan and ensure effective production performance, including an attention to detail at a high level.
- Ability to be agile by managing multiple tasks and using effective critical thinking to achieve Company objectives.
- Ability to gather all pertinent data and information to make competent, timely, informed decisions with regard to problem solving and changing priorities.
- Exceptional communication skills to provide performance expectations to the manufacturing team, and ensure that other departments, management and outside contacts are appropriately informed.
- Understand requirements of the Dextran quality system and direct department staff to ensure they are able to read, understand, interpret and perform all tasks and activities are in compliance.
Ability to use information technology, including the Microsoft Suite, enterprise planning software, training software and other applicable technology.
