What to Expect
As an R&D Machinist at Tesla, you will join a dynamic cross-functional team of engineers, machinists, and technicians to create high-precision components for cutting-edge technologies. Working within an innovative R&D environment, each day brings unique challenges and opportunities to push the boundaries of manufacturing and engineering. This role requires a highly motivated individual eager to learn and grow, leveraging a diverse array of onsite machine tools to their fullest potential. Flexibility is key to adapt to shifting priorities and schedules, while utilizing top-tier equipment and collaborating with a team dedicated to overcoming the limits of physics.
What You'll Do

Set up and operate CNC lathes, milling machines, and grinding machines

Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, and drill presses
-
Own the process from drawing review to completed parts, including programming, tooling order, machine setup, manual measurement, and adjustments from CMM measurement

Collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to develop machining processes for complex components

Program components for machines using CAM software
-
Maintain machine tools and equipment as needed
-
Practice 5S cyclical methodology (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) to drive continuous improvement in the lab workspace
What You'll Bring

Red Seal certification preferred, or equivalent experience
-
Ability to use CAM software to program parts for machining (Esprit and/or HyperMill)
-
Experience working with tight tolerances in metric (microns)
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
-
Strong understanding of GD&T as per ASME Y14.5

Strong organizational and multitasking skills
