Clinical Student Placement Navigator
About the role
Job Summary & Requirements The Clinical Student Placement Navigator oversees intake, orientation, and on-boarding for all clinical student placements at RVH. In addition, they will be the liaison between RVH and our affiliated post-secondary schools, building and maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external contributors.
The Clinical Student Placement Navigator works within the Professional Practice team and the Nursing Residency portfolio, collaborating with internal and external contributors to provide excellent student experiences at RVH. This position reports to the Manager Professional Practice, Nursing Residency.
Education:
- Diploma or degree required; health-related education preferred
Experience:
- Knowledge and experience related to clinical student placements within an acute care facility
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within the health care system
- Experience using SharePoint and electronic documentation software
- Experience with collection, tracking and submission of data
- Experience collaborating with a variety of contributors and quality improvement processes
- Basic understanding of Affiliation Agreements with academic institutions

Responsibilities: Managing Student Intake Requests:
- Manage the various streams for clinical student intake for a variety of healthcare disciplines (using SharePoint, HSPnet, email)
- Direct placement requests to the appropriate leader, Professional Practice Leader (PPL), or other contributors for approval
- Problem solve with internal and external contributors around unique or novel placement requests
- Continued quality improvement of intake process
- Liaise with leaders and PPLs to ensure RVH staff preceptor assignment for students
- Work with Quality Practice Lead to ensure Affiliation Agreements are in place prior to confirming placements
Coordinate orientation and onboarding for students:
- Coordinate onboarding for all clinical student placements (large intakes 3 times per year plus smaller intakes throughout the year)
- Manage student and school questions/concerns related to onboarding (via email, phone calls, virtual, in person)
- Track all students onboarding completion and follow up appropriately for outstanding documents (with students, preceptors, schools, leaders, etc)
- Collaborate with internal contributors (IT, security, CIA, People Safety, Clinical Nurse Educators, Infection Prevention And Control (IPAC)) for coordination of onboarding requirements and orientation content maintenance
Collaborate with contributors for continuous process improvement:
- Liaise with school placement offices for process updates, concerns, and maintenance of relationships with RVH
- Liaise with internal stakeholders such as, but not limited to, IT services, security, Clinical Informatics, Clinical Nurse Educators, People Safety, Infection Prevention and Control for continuous onboarding and orientation process improvement
- Ensure processes meet the needs for program growth and increasing capacity for clinical student placements
- Tracking and reporting program data for yearly Ontario Hospital Association reporting

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, located in Barrie, Ontario, provides safe, high-quality care for residents across a large geographical region including Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. The area is home to more than 450,000 residents, with half of RVH’s patients living outside the City of Barrie.
As the largest health centre in North Simcoe Muskoka, RVH provides highly specialized services, and technology not found anywhere else in the region. This includes the only interventional radiology suites for minimally invasive surgeries, vascular services, advanced stroke care, as well as dedicated trauma rooms in its large Emergency department. RVH is also home to the Hudson Regional Cancer Centre, Simcoe Muskoka Regional Heart Program, Simcoe Muskoka Regional Child and Youth Program and the RVH Regional Renal Program meaning distance is no longer a factor for residents receiving lifesaving treatment.
