Manitoba Videographer (English Services)(On-Site)

Your role

CBC Manitoba is seeking two exceptional visual storytellers to join our Videography team based in Winnipeg.

We are a diverse and inclusive region, a gold mine of interesting characters with stories that speak to the heart of our communities and cultures. It means understanding and reflecting the rich diversity of Manitoba, in all of our programming and on all of our platforms (TV, radio, digital). In this role you are responsive to constantly shifting audience needs and new and available technologies. You will perform tasks as a specialist in visual storytelling by actively contributing creatively composed and distinctive visuals in both video and still photography.

This role also requires a high level of skill editing in Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere and packaging content for all visual platforms. You will perform according to accepted CBC and/or industry standards, but there is latitude for independent action, judgement and initiative.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepares, aligns and sets up field cameras ensuring optimum visual and technical quality under prevailing conditions.

  • Lights the subject or scene, composes and records program material using professional field equipment. Ensures both visual and aural material meets technical and aesthetic requirements for editing.

  • Delivers all recorded materials and performs editing for all video platforms which could include linear broadcasting/ FAST channels, website, YouTube and TikTok.

  • In the field, performs simple maintenance of equipment.

  • Drives a motor vehicle on a daily basis and handles routine vehicle maintenance.

  • Performs all or part of the function or duties of an equivalent or lower classification.

  • As assigned or required, may perform any or all of the following tasks:

    • Ask questions of subjects being recorded.
    • Contribute to social media.
    • Prepare documentation for international travel.

Please note the work schedule will include shift rotations that involve early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Your profile:

  • Excellent level of technical knowledge and understanding of daily Television News production methods.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot Electronic News Gathering (ENG) camera and associated technology such as wireless microphones, lighting equipment, and communication tools.
  • Ability to edit video/ audio using Non-Linear editing technology such as Avid Media Composer in both an office or remote setting.
  • Strong image composition skills in videography, still photography and editing.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining a calm, professional attitude.
  • Strong team player with experience and/or willingness to work with new reporters to help them develop their on-camera skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Aptitude for telling standalone visual stories which may require an ability to conduct interviews and make editorial decisions of visual treatments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations.
  • Ability and willingness to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends, as well as extended hours for unforeseen overtime.
  • Experience with multi-camera production is an asset.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a post-secondary education and three (3) years of relevant experience in TV and media arts.
