What is your opportunity?
As Director – Head of Canada and Caribbean Data Privacy, you will lead a team of 2nd Line of Defence (2LOD) Privacy Officers covering Canadian and Caribbean Businesses and Functions to ensure adequate oversight and challenge of Privacy Risk management at RBC. You will also build and maintain relationships with key 1st Line of Defence (1LOD) senior stakeholders and 1LOD Privacy Teams across Canada and the Caribbean, ensuring there is clarity on roles and responsibilities, policy requirements and regulatory expectations, enabling robust 1LOD management of privacy risk in Segments and Functions.
What will you do?
- Ensure a consistent approach to privacy risk management by strengthening overall oversight and challenge for Canadian and Caribbean businesses and functions.
- Identify, raise and record issues with Global Privacy Office (either actual or prospective) as they arise, and to resolve them jointly in conjunction with affected regional peers.
- Build strong working relationship with regional peers to achieve common, consistent or global controls (policies and procedures etc.) tools, methodologies and requisite solutions in respect of the privacy compliance needs of the global businesses.
- Collaborate with the Canadian and Caribbean 1LOD Privacy teams and ensure appropriate oversight of the activities performed by these teams.
- Review and challenge to the business with regard to their management of privacy risk and maintain a general understanding of how RBC collects, uses and stores personal data, working closely with those in the Business and IT who possess detailed knowledge of RBC’s management of personal data.
- Review escalated Privacy Risk Assessments, Supplier Risk Management Assessments, Privacy Breaches and complaints.
- Assessment of any escalations relating to collection or use of personal data which may not be compliant with RBC’s policies and procedures or with our regulatory obligations and take any necessary actions.
- Escalation of significant risks, concerns and challenges to Global Head of Privacy Over sight Compliance and/or Chief Privacy Officer, RBC and relevant senior stakeholders within Compliance function.
- In conjunction with the relevant 1LOD Privacy teams and businesses, development of an appropriate and effective response to and resolution of any privacy issues, deficiencies or breaches identified.
- Build relationships and lead interactions with relevant Privacy regulators, as required.
- Lead regulatory change management for Canadian and Caribbean privacy regulatory changes, including identifying changes, undertaking and overseeing the completion of impact assessments with 1LOD and oversight of implementation to ensure ongoing compliance with privacy regulatory requirements.
What do you need to succeed?
- Experienced Privacy professional with a strong knowledge of privacy, compliance and regulatory risk management practices
- Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment
- Proven effective communication skills
- Strong stakeholder engagement at a senior level
- University degree
Nice-to-have
- Experience working in the financial services industry
- Privacy accreditation (IAPP)
