What You’ll Do

People Leadership

  • Manage and develop a team of payroll professionals in alignment with SLG’s goals and values.
  • Allocate resources to ensure effective handling of daily operations and projects.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance reviews; support learning and development plans.
  • Drive retention and cross-training within the team to build bench strength and resilience.

Payroll Administration

  • Lead end-to-end payroll processing, including balancing allocations and verifying accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with Provincial and Federal payroll regulations.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll-related issues, escalating and implementing solutions as required.
  • Oversee reconciliations of payroll and benefits accounts (e.g., WCB remittances, general payroll, employee benefits).
  • Manage remittances (tax withholdings, benefits payments), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Lead all year-end payroll activities (e.g., pension adjustments, T4s, government filings).
  • Prepare monthly payroll analysis, variance reporting, and year-end audits (internal and external).
  • Collaborate with Finance, HR, and other departments to meet operational and reporting requirements.

HRIS / Dayforce Management

  • Act as the business lead and subject matter expert for Dayforce payroll and HRIS, with responsibility for configuration, integrations, and data accuracy.
  • Lead or co-lead Dayforce implementation projects, including planning, testing, change management, and rollout of new modules.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to optimize Dayforce functionality, reporting, and workflows across business units.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot Dayforce issues, escalating to vendors or internal teams as required.
  • Ensure strict data governance, accuracy, and security of employee records within Dayforce.
  • Provide training and guidance to payroll and HR staff on Dayforce functionality and best practices.
  • Continuously evaluate new Dayforce features, modules, and releases to drive improvements in payroll and workforce management efficiency.

Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain and update payroll policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance.
  • Implement improvements to payroll processes and internal controls.
  • Monitor accuracy of timesheets, leave data, and other inputs to prevent discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper management and retention of payroll records to support compliance and audits.
  • Stay current on payroll and HRIS technology trends and best practices, recommending enhancements as appropriate.

What You’ll Bring

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.
  • Payroll Management certification (e.g., PCP, CPM) an asset.
  • 5+ years payroll administration experience with full-cycle responsibility.
  • 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role managing payroll staff.
  • Must have proven experience managing Dayforce, including payroll administration, configuration, reporting, and system governance.
  • Must have direct experience in Dayforce implementations, upgrades, or major module deployments.
