The Section Manager manages the entire Control and Yard Operations of the National Hub Ontario. The Section Manager is responsible for ensuring the department achieves their targets while also ensuring necessary planning and budgeting takes place in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency in the future.Responsibilities
Manage and lead a group of Unit Managers in all aspects of the control rool operations Develop and implement strategies with yard and control room operations Manage administration and operating standards including, budget planning, analyzing reports regarding control room productivity standards. Accountable for the Control Room's performance and results, indices, productivity, Company policies/procedures compliance and customer service obligations and provide summarization thereof to Operations Manager Filter through strategic objectives for tactical execution Development of managers through example, training, discussion Mediation and dispute resolution
Qualifications
Post-secondary qualification in business
3-5 years management experience in leading front-line managers Possess strong management/leadership skills Previous training and experience in warehouse operations and the ability to provide job related training to staff Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment overnight liaison with available Control teams, local and U.S. terminal managers on sort solutions Strong oral, written and conference call communication skills with proven leadership managing and conducting team meetings to satisfy specific goals Dynamic forward thinking ability on area improvements aligned with company direction Energetic leader and ability to motivate a team Excellent problem solving and analytical skills Ability to coordinate a wide variety of duties and responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment Works well in a fast-paced demanding environment Strong computer knowledge (Microsoft Office Suite) Experience managing unionized and non-unionized employees Experience in Project Management Experience in Lean methodologies – Yellow and Green Belt Certification Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
