The Opportunity:
As a Lead Consultant Vehicles Systems, Transit, Bus & Fleet within our Transportation Systems group, you will lead the technical delivery, assurance, and lifecycle performance of vehicles—covering transit buses, school buses, private coach, paratransit, and municipal/service fleets. Focus exclusively on vehicle-side responsibilities: specification, design review, acceptance, operational audits, lifecycle upgrades, and technical training. You will be the go-to authority for ensuring vehicles meet client requirements from procurement to mid-life overhaul, supporting both operations and maintenance teams with the knowledge and tools to succeed.

WeAre WSP
What you can expect to do here:
- Lead technical specification development for Diesel, Hybrid, BEB, FCEB, and ULEV fleets, ensuring every detail addresses safety, integration, lifecycle cost, and client requirements.
- Oversee vehicle inspections at OEM facilities and post-delivery, ensuring all units meet contract specs and coordinating defect resolution for final acceptance.
- Drive performance audits and recommend strategies to optimize operations, maintenance practices, and fleet reliability—maximizing return on investment and minimizing downtime.
- Plan and manage mid-life overhauls, including HV battery replacements, propulsion upgrades, and essential system refreshes to extend fleet life and compliance with updated standards.
- Develop and deliver technical training for maintenance teams, covering HV safety, diagnostics, and advanced troubleshooting, and create targeted curricula to close skills gaps.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, engineering, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of zero-emission technologies and best practices.
- Leverage data analytics (SQL/Python/BI tools) to identify trends, drive continuous improvement, and support data-driven decision-making for fleet modernization.
- Champion safety and innovation, staying at the forefront of industry standards and technologies to ensure client fleets exceed performance and compliance expectations.
What you’ll bring to WSP:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering (P.Eng. preferred).

Over 12 years’ experience in heavy-duty fleet vehicle engineering—especially buses—across diesel, hybrid, battery-electric, and hydrogen fuel-cell platforms.

Strong record in vehicle specification, procurement, inspections, and lifecycle audits.
-
Experienced in creating technical training for maintenance teams.
-
Skilled in data analytics (SQL, Python, BI tools) to boost reliability.
-
Comprehensive knowledge of BEB/FCEB systems: high-voltage distribution, BMS, propulsion, braking, HVAC/thermal, accessibility, diagnostics, and telematics.

Familiar with key industry standards: SAE J1772/CCS, ISO 15118, SAE J2601, SAE J3105, NFPA/CSA HV safety, EMC/EMI, and functional safety.

Willingness to travel up to 40% of your time
