About the role

The Dishwasher / Kitchen Helper plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. This position is responsible for washing dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment, as well as assisting the culinary team with basic food preparation, cleaning, and kitchen support duties. The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced steakhouse environment. Key Responsibilities Dishwashing & Sanitation Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment using commercial dishwashing equipment. Ensure all items are properly cleaned, dried, and stored in designated areas. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing station at all times. Empty garbage and recycling containers and dispose of waste according to company procedures. Clean floors, drains, walls, and other kitchen areas as required. Kitchen Support Assist cooks and chefs with basic food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients. Restock kitchen supplies, utensils, and food storage areas. Assist with receiving and storing deliveries. Support kitchen staff during busy service periods. Maintain organization of walk-in coolers, freezers, and dry storage areas. Health & Safety Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures. Ensure cleaning chemicals are used and stored safely. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Report equipment malfunctions, hazards, or safety concerns to management immediately. Comply with provincial health regulations and company policies. Opening & Closing Duties Assist with kitchen opening and closing procedures. Complete cleaning checklists and sanitation tasks. Ensure dishwashing equipment is cleaned and properly shut down at the end of each shift. Help prepare the kitchen for the next day's operations. Qualifications Previous dishwashing or kitchen experience is an asset but not required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain productivity during peak periods. Strong attention to cleanliness and organization. Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team. Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 25 kg (55 lbs). Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving bending, reaching, and lifting. Comfortable working in a hot, wet, and fast-paced kitchen environment. Preferred Qualifications Food Safety Certification or willingness to obtain certification. Previous experience in a restaurant, steakhouse, or hospitality environment.
