About the role

Guidance Counsellor

MAC Olive Grove School is currently recruiting for a part-time Islamic Studies Coordinator and Guidance Counsellor to join our team. You will be expected to work with students to understand their needs and support them to help them succeed at school.

You will leverage the Tarbiyah program at our school to help students reach their full potential.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Non-judgmental, reflexive and empathetic
  • Ability to encourage introspection, connection and ambition
  • Decisive but amenable to change
  • Energetic personality with strong interpersonal skills
  • Must have excellent listening skills
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Desire to build current programs and maintain a strong niche in the community
  • Proven leadership experience in a K-12 setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children in an Islamic school or working with Muslim youth.
  • Previous curriculum planning and teaching experience
  • Experience with school wide discipline
  • A bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, developmental psychology, or a similar field

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guide students who may be unable to comply with the school’s student code due to circumstances beyond their control.
  • Assist students with making positive changes in their lives by providing guidance on spiritual practices that align with Islam.
  • Collaborate with parents and teachers to develop action plans that help the student achieve their academic goals
  • Evaluate student’s advancement toward goal actualization
  • Encourage continued and sustainable progress
  • Communicate action plans with staff in advance with details, requirements, etc.
  • Obtain feedback from teachers regarding students’ progress
