Journeyman Powerline Technician (Grid Response)
About the role
We are currently seeking qualified Powerline Technicians (PLT) to join our Grid Response Team for Toronto Hydro.
Reporting to the Senior Foreperson, this position plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and resiliency of the electrical distribution systems. It is responsible for responding to outages, conducting repairs, performing maintenance, and restoring power in a timely and safe manner. Working both independently and as part of a response crew, we are looking for self-motivated team players willing to work shift work (plus overtime) to ensure that service interruptions are minimized and that system integrity is upheld during both routine operations and emergency events.
Please Note: Valard Construction is a CUSW Union employer. The successful candidate must be a member or willing to join the CUSW union.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to system outages, alarms, and emergency calls to troubleshoot and restore electrical service safely and efficiently
- Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems
- Conduct switching operations and isolation procedures in accordance with established safety and operational standards
- Inspect, test, and maintain line equipment such as poles, transformers, switches, conductors, and associated hardware
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent using field management systems or work order tools
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, company standards, and applicable regulations (e.g., OH&S, CSA, IEEE)
- You will be eligible to receive a shift premium for work on the Grid Response Team
Requirements
- Red Seal Lineman (Must have Red Seal Certificate or equivalent)
- 5 years of distribution experience
- Class 4 Rubber Glove experience
- Class DZ Drivers license
- Up to date working at Heights Certification
- Must live within daily driving distance of the General Toronto Area
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
- AZ Drivers license
- Previous experience with Toronto Hydro distribution network
- Current Utility Worker Protection Code (UWPC) Training
- Standard First Aid (CPR/AED)
