(EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS) that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) Operations division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth/811 medical communications for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health. We access all communities in Nova Scotia in a timely and efficient manner with our fleet of more than 180 ambulances and support vehicles operating out of 60+ stations. We respond to 165,000+ calls annually across the province, which are actively managed through the EHS Operations Medical Communications Centre, the hub of all emergency (911) and non-emergency (hospital transfers) medical calls. The EHS Operations LifeFlight program provides even greater accessibility by responding to patients on scene or through inter-facility transports by our critical care team via helicopter, fixed wing, or ground ambulance. In addition, paramedics in Nova Scotia participate in various programs both urban and rural such as community-based paramedic programs, collaborative emergency centres, and emergency preparedness and special operations, to name a few. Apply now to learn more about our service and available positions. * NATURE AND SCOPE: Reporting to the SST Fleet Supervisor, the System Support Vehicle Transporter (Runner) is a key part of the System Support Team that provides vehicle movement pertaining to system vehicle repair, maintenance and other duties as assigned. Responsible for ensuring operational readiness by safely transporting ambulances and system vehicles between fleet centers and stations. This role supports emergency service delivery through vehicle movement, readiness checks, and logistics support. It contributes directly to fleet availability, efficiency, and reliable frontline operations. As a casual position, there are no scheduled hours, transporters are called in as necessary. As an employee of EMC, we are accountable to our patients and coworkers by participating in and supporting all safety related initiatives, as well as acting in a manner that fosters a culture that focuses on patient safety and a safe workplace. Duties & Responsibilities The position entails, but is not limited to the following: Transport vehicles/equipment safely and efficiently between locations Conduct pre-trip inspections, cleaning, and readiness checks Ensure vehicles are washed down of heavy road debris upon delivery if required. Report vehicle defects or safety issues. Always interact professionally with EMC and EHS stakeholders. Support logistics including deliveries and special projects Communicate with internal teams and vendors Operate all system and company vehicles in accordance with Nova Scotia laws as well as all applicable policies and procedures and Safe Work Practices of EMC and EHS. Qualifications & Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent Retain a Nova Scotia Class 4 Driver’s License/Obtain during 1st year 1–2 years driving or fleet-related experience preferred Ability to work, day, night, evening shifts including weekends Experience in operational or logistics environments is an asset First Aid an asset Effective oral and written communication skills. Displays good decision-making skills and takes initiative Knowledge & Skills: Strong time management and organizational skills Basic mechanical awareness Attention to detail and safety focus Effective oral and communication skills Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities Proficient in the use of computers and standard software applications Physical Requirements: Extended periods of driving, as well as frequent entry and exit from vehicles. Irregular work schedules Lifting and carrying within safe limits Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice.
