The Opportunity

Prince Albert Youth Centre is accepting applications for permanent full-time Facility Youth Workers. This list will be used to fill vacancies which arise within the next 12 months.

Facility Youth Workers are professionals who work directly with youth offenders aged 12 to 17, holding them accountable and supporting positive change in their lives while maintaining the safe and secure operation of the facility.

As a Facility Youth Worker, you will:

  • Be responsible for the safety and security of youth offenders in various correctional settings;
  • Provide assessment, counselling, program delivery and case management;
  • Work closely with youth who may have intergenerational trauma, special needs, gender differences and various cultural and spiritual beliefs;
  • Accurately interpret and apply legislation, policy, and procedures;
  • Apply a collaborative approach that promotes interdisciplinary teamwork;
  • Continuously assess situational factors, and evaluate the level of risk, to make sound and appropriate decisions; and
  • Prevent, respond to, and resolve incidents, using the safest and most reasonable intervention strategies.

Ideal Candidate

As our successful candidate, you will have:

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system;
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and behaviour to support positive change;
  • A valid Saskatchewan-issued Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent;
  • A valid First Aid and CPR/AED certificate with no less than 12 months remaining before expiration is required prior to the ITP start date;
  • The ability to verbally and in writing, present clear, concise, timely and accurate information;
  • Critical thinking skills to exercise sound judgment, solve problems and apply appropriate interventions;
  • Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills;
  • The ability to be a collaborative and supportive team player;
  • An inclusive, non-judgmental and culturally responsive approach;
  • The ability to be adaptable and resilient in times of change, uncertainty and stress; and
  • Proficiency with various computer systems, software, and programs.

Typically, the requirements for success in this position are completion of a High School diploma and/or experience/education in the social sciences, correctional services, or similar discipline.

Physical Requirements

  • The COPAT requirement for employment has been replaced by a comprehensive medical evaluation completed by a licensed medical practitioner; and
  • Should you receive a successful offer of employment, you will be enrolled into a paid 11 week Induction Training Program. The next ITP will be offered starting January 19, 2026.

Candidates will be placed on the eligibility list in order of service-wide seniority. Assessment and appointments will occur as vacancies arise.

Appointments will be made from this eligibility list until the list expires in one year, or a new one is posted. Upon re-post, candidates still interested in the opportunity will need to re-apply.
