About the role

As a member of the Municipal Accommodations Division, the Building Servicer 2 - Operations (WPS HQ) works under the general supervision of the Foreman Grade 3 performing a large variety of duties that include:

  • Assisting with monitoring and operating of the Building Automation System, to adhere to the highest standards of a facility with multiple programs and disciplines each requiring strict operational guidelines for their specific location, in a fast paced and highly demanding work place environment.
  • Performing daily and routine inspections including regulatory inspections, operations maintenance and repairs for a large facility with multiple pieces of specialized technical equipment and processes.
  • Assisting in the operation and maintenance of life safety equipment, systems and devices.
  • Operating and maintaining various types of tools and completing reports and records as required.
  • Performing custodial work related to all aspects of the buildings activities as required when necessary.
  • Responding to customer service requests for internal City departments and multiple external clients including the public.
  • Assisting in the training of employees.
  • In the course of carrying out daily tasks, the incumbent practices established procedures in the execution of assigned duties. In the absence of the Foreman 3 and Building Servicet 3, will act in these positions as required.

As the Building Servicer 2 - WPS HQ, you will:

  • Monitoring and Operation of the Building Automation system, to adhere to the highest standards of a facility with multiple programs and disciplines each requiring strict operational guidelines for their specific function, in a fast paced and highly demanding work place environment.
  • Perform Power Engineering duties consistent with a large facility operation under the oversight of a 4th class power plant classification.
  • Attend to all service requests and various operational needs and services, as a front line responder.
  • Assist in the orientation of fellow employees and maintains co-operative working relations.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Valid 5th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate.

  • 4th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate would be an asset.

  • One-year experience of power engineering duties, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Experience in the use of hand and power tools, and measuring instruments.

  • Experience with diagnosing mechanical failures that can occur in a large building, making repairs and conduct ongoing maintenance.

  • Knowledge in maintenance procedures of buildings, heating, ventilation, cooling systems and their components.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook and Excel.

  • Ability in the use and operation of the Computerized Building Management System (METASYS) or equivalent system.

  • Ability to work with a work management system (MAXIMO) or similar system.

  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to write effectively and concisely.

  • Ability to deal harmoniously with other staff, building users and the general public.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and organize tasks efficiently.

  • Ability to delegate and provide direction regarding the methods, practices, and operational duties while orientating new employees.

  • Knowledge of materials and chemicals related to the position including safe handling practices related to the position (WHMIS).

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions that are applicable to the position’s area of work.

Conditions of employment:

  • The successful candidate must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful candidate possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Winnipeg Police Service Level 3 security clearance.
  • Must possess a St. John’s Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate or equivalent or willingness and ability to obtain it within three (3) months.
  • Must be willing and able to work shift work, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be willing and able to move locations per Management direction based on operational needs.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position in all weather conditions, including the ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, work at heights, and in confined spaces or in a warm, humid environment.
