Hyatt Regency Vancouver is seeking a dedicated, experienced, detail-oriented professional to join the Engineering team as Assistant Director of Engineering .
In this role, the Assistant Director of Engineering plays a critical leadership role in supporting the Director of Engineering with the management of budgets, capital expenditures, preventive maintenance programs, and energy conservation initiatives. The position provides operational oversight for a complex, full-service 650-room hotel encompassing 45,000 square feet of meeting space, three food and beverage outlets, and a Fitness Centre with an outdoor swimming pool, sauna and hot tub. The Assistant Director of Engineering will be accountable for maintaining the hotel’s building and grounds with a strong focus on safety, asset protection, and overall appearance from the entrance to the rooftop. This role involves assigning, tracking, and following up on work performed by colleagues and contractors, increasing guest and colleague satisfaction through effective communication and training, and engaging contractors to obtain proposals for major repairs, renovations, and equipment replacement.
Salary range: 79,500 – 95,000 per year

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO
- Responsible for the management of engineering colleague performing carpentry, mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing duties
- Administrator for the department's preventive maintenance and the energy management systems to reduce utility consumption and energy costs
- Coordinate major mechanical, electrical and renovation projects
- Prepare, implement and manage an operating budget
- Assist the Director of Engineering with recruiting, scheduling, payroll, training and development of colleague and development of departmental Policies and Procedures
- Coach and counsel colleagues to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures
- Assist Director of Engineering with monthly department meeting and training
- Lead team of engineering colleague, providing skill training and motivation while maintaining a safe and secure work environment
- Administer and encourage positive employee engagement amongst colleagues
- Identify and implement necessary strategies to improve organizational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety and /or cost-savings
- Issue work orders, monitor and ensure work request/ work orders are completed efficiently while maintaining a high quality of workmanship and guest satisfaction, meeting or exceeding the appropriate quality standards
- Serve as a departmental role model or mentor by working alongside colleagues to perform technical or functional job duties
- Coordinate tasks and work with other departments to ensure that the department runs efficiently
- Ensure follow-up communication and appropriate documentation with necessary departments to ensure hotel property deficiencies and safety hazards are resolved
- Ongoing repair and maintenance of the entire hotel and F&B facilities including the physical building structure, all Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC systems, and related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs
- Monitor contractor's work performance on site, ensuring good quality workmanship, and also ensuring proper safety Procedures and hotel policies are followed
- Follow and maintain proper accounting procedures for purchasing of services and supplies
- Analyze, investigate, and resolve guest complaints and colleague issues
- Resolve customer concerns to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and quality
- Co-chair of the Sustainability Committee and Member of the Health & Safety Committee
- Ensure all local and provincial law compliance and building codes are adhered to and lead the hotels Fire Safety & Emergency Evacuation Teams
Qualifications
- College degree or high school diploma in Technical, Trade, or Vocational
- Fourth Class Power Engineering certification is preferred and considered an asset, but not required
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a hotel or related industry
- Minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience within a hotel environment
- Strong knowledge of building operations, including HVAC central plant systems, refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Ability to read technical drawings and manage day-to-day operations
- Working knowledge of Opera PMS, Birchstreet purchasing, CMMS preventive maintenance systems, VisionLine or Saflok key systems, and HotSOS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills

- Constant standing and/or sitting throughout shift
- Frequent walking throughout the shift
- Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling and lifting (up to 50lbs)
