Compensation And Benefits

  • Compensation: Proposed hiring rate of $18.00 to $19.80 actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

Job Summary The Retail Merchandise Assistant works along with the Copper Retail Group Manager, Retail Buyer, the retail warehouse, and all retail location managers and staff at Copper Mountain. This position assists the buyers with all merchandising and inventory control duties at Copper-owned retail facilities. This will include, but is not limited to, creating professionally presented product displays, maintaining store merchandise plans with appropriate product-mix, and maintaining adequate stock levels in all retail locations. The Merchandise Assistant is required to create weekly inventory replenishment requests from our warehouse for all locations. The Merchandise Assistant will also follow a set weekly schedule consisting of visits to each retail location and the retail warehouse. A main focus of this position will be to facilitate the flow of inventory as it moves from the warehouse to retail locations and between retail locations as needed to maximize sales. In addition, the Merchandise Assistant will focus on limiting loss prevention through monitoring product location in the stores and by conducting frequent physical inventory cycle counts. The bulk of the Merchandise Assistant’s time will be spent at our busiest location, Camp Hale Outfitters, but will also be needed in our East, West, and WHS locations at least one day each week. The responsibilities of the Retail Merchandise Assistant will also include working at all retail locations serving guests by answering questions and completing sales of soft-goods, accessories, and hard-goods. The Retail Merchandise Assistant must be proactive, be able to work independently, work well with others, be able to delegate tasks to agents, be able to receive instruction from leadership, and move throughout the resort as needed. The Retail Merchandise Assistant will help with fulfillment and management of the online store orders and inventory. The Retail Merchandise Assistant will also work in the warehouse when needed during busy volume times, and in the summer months in our retail locations on the sales floor.

Merchandising Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Remain current on new trends in the skiing and snowboarding industry to capitalize on increased profits and proper product selection/display for the retail outlets.
  • Assist in the creation of merchandising plans to increase revenues through product placement in the shops, window displays and proper product mix (i.e., tee shirts vs. ski gloves) which gives the shops good balance and design.
  • Ensure all window displays and interior store merchandising is fresh to ensure the success of the operation.
  • Ensure that all square footage is maximized with product to increase revenues per shop.
  • Assist with continued training throughout the year by helping front line staff with brand/product knowledge.

Retail Sales

  • Work floor of retail shops as needed, cover breaks and lunches to ensure a smooth-running operation.
  • Initiate new projects to continually upgrade the operation and increase service to guests.
  • Resolve any conflicts that arise due to the wide variety of situations encountered with guests to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Help train newly hired employees on proper procedures, company policies and products to assist with a smooth operation.
  • Sales of hardgoods, softgoods, and accessories to guests that will make their personal skiing or snowboarding experience positive.
  • Serve the guest by answering numerous questions and give advice to offer him/her the extra personal touch of customer service.
  • Handle cash daily and accurately ring in sales to the cash register to track revenues and inventory figures.
  • Anticipate needed merchandise in each location and order merchandise from the warehouse accurately to maintain adequate stock levels which directly impact revenues.
  • Review all merchandise request orders generated by staff to verify proper allocation and stock levels.
  • Delegate tasks to retail agents as needed concerning merchandising and restocking of stores.
  • Maintain a positive attitude in an eight to ten hour day and on stressful high volume days in order to provide excellent customer service.
  • All additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Work in the retail locations during the summer months in a RS role.
  • Manage the fulfillment and inventory of our online store location.

Inventory Management/Warehouse

  • Receive ordered merchandise from the warehouse. Check in merchandise against requisitions (packing slips) and stock items.
  • Complete specific cycle counts when needed to verify accurate inventory levels and reduce shrink.
  • Responsible for entering weekly merchandise requests for all locations and maintaining organization of the back stock area at Camp Hale Outfitters.
  • Work with locations to record damaged product and facilitate moving damaged product to the Retail Buyers.
  • Be the liaison between the warehouse, buyers, and all locations for visual merchandising and inventory management. Encouraging a positive flow of communication through all outlets.
  • Work with locations to track and relocate products about to expire to help move product out of inventory and prevent/reduce shrinkage due to expiration.

Planning

  • Assist all retail outlets in developing marketing strategies to increase awareness and exposure.
  • Assist with the planning and design of all new retail outlets, plus upgrades of current operations.
  • Assist with the planning of new retail shop layouts and theming. This will include: colors, textures, designs, traffic flow, signage placement and product mix.
  • Generation and usage of RTP One reports

Basic Requirements

  • 1 - 2 years retail experience
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder to merchandise display walls
  • Must be at least 18 years old

Preferred Experience And Special Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong sales abilities.
  • Knowledge of consumer behavior and buying patterns in the snow sports industry.

About Copper Mountain Resort

Copper Mountain Resort is The Athlete's Mountain. Located in Summit County, Colorado, about 75 miles (121 km) west of Denver on Interstate 70, the resort opened in late 1971. Iit was owned and operated by Intrawest until Dec. 2009, when operations were transferred to Powdr Adventure Lifestyle Co.

The ski area features beginner slopes on the western side of the mountain, intermediate slopes in the center, and expert terrain on the eastern side. Advanced "double black diamond"​ slopes are located on the two peaks above 12,000 feet (Copper and Union Peaks), including four expert-only bowls: Copper Bowl, Union Bowl, Spaulding Bowl, and Resolution Bowl. Copper Mountain Ski Resort has 2,465 acres of in-bounds terrain under lease from the United States Forest Service, White River National Forest, Dillon Ranger District.
