Job Summary

The Dalhousie Physiotherapy Clinic delivers exceptional physiotherapy services to Dalhousie’s students, athletes, faculty/staff and the general public utilizing an evidence-based treatment approach, creating innovative experiential learning opportunities for our students, and incorporating research-centered clinical practice. Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Therapy Assistant will provide assistance to clinicians for the provision of physiotherapy services in the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Clinic, carrying out a variety of duties to ensure optimal client experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision and direction of a physiotherapist, provide client care, including the use of treatment equipment, exercise programs, etc.

  • Ensure treatment area cleanliness, including laundry and treatment area organization. Provide maintenance and cleaning/sterilization of medical equipment.

  • Oversee inventory, maintenance and preparation of clinical equipment and supplies. Source and price equipment. After consultation with Clinic Manager, order new items.

  • Collect outcome measure data for research related projects.

  • Liaise with Clinic Manager, Varsity Coaches, players and trainers in the implementation of the Dalhousie Varsity Athletic Trainers program and provide training to Athletic Trainers under the direction of a Physiotherapist.

  • As part of the Clinic team, support colleagues as needed. This includes providing administrative support to facilitate the operational demands of the clinic, as required.

Note

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) diploma program plus approximately one to three years’ relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment and to handle confidential information in accordance with PHIA, PIPEDA and FOIPOP.

  • Proven strong client service, teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • This position requires physical effort, including periods standing, repetitive reaching, bending, and lifting/carrying of objects up to 15 pounds (from floor, waist and above shoulder level), and pushing/pulling of equipment.

  • Current Basic First Aid and CPR

Assets

  • Undergraduate degree in Kinesiology.

  • Experience working with university level students and athletes.

  • Experience in an Athletic Trainer capacity.

  • Experience working in a private physiotherapy/health care clinic.
