SAP Technical Application Lead

Annual salary: $ 131,100.00 - 165,800.00

Position Highlights
The SAP Technical Application Lead is accountable for providing strategic and hands-on leadership for technical initiatives

within BC Hydro’s SAP enterprise landscape. This role is responsible for leading technical delivery teams and driving

solution architecture decisions. The successful candidate must have the capability to lead in some or all of the following

areas (ranked by priority):

  1. Clean Core

  2. Cloud Application Development

  3. Test Automation

  4. SAP Licensing and Audits

  5. Environment Management

  6. Basis, Security, and Build Work Zone

The role works closely with product teams, functional leaders, architecture, operations, and external service providers to

ensure SAP solutions are well governed, scalable, and aligned with long-term enterprise objectives.

BC Hydro’s SAP environment supports critical business processes including Customer Care, Enterprise Asset

Management, Supply Chain, Finance, and Human Resources; as such, this role plays a key leadership function in ensuring

technical decisions support operational stability, regulatory obligations, and business value.

What you'll do

  1. Clean Core

  • Own and drive SAP Clean Core principles across the S/4HANA and SAP cloud landscape to minimize custom code and

ensure long term upgradeability and alignment with SAP best practices.

  • Define, maintain, and socialize extensibility standards, patterns, and guardrails, including side by side (BTP based) and in

app extensibility approaches.

  • Provide technical direction and decision support on when and how to extend SAP, balancing business requirements with

platform integrity.

  • Lead adoption of SAP BTP–based extensibility and integration patterns that minimize core modifications and align with

enterprise architecture principles and SAP roadmap.

  1. Cloud Application Development

  • Lead the design and development of cloud-native applications and extensions on SAP BTP.

  • Architect scalable solutions integrating SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors, and other enterprise platforms.

  • Provide technical leadership for development using the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP).

  1. Test Automation

  • Support and promote automated testing and quality practices across SAP delivery teams.

  • Contribute to initiatives involving SAP test automation tools such as Tricentis encouraging DevOps aligned practices

including automated validation and metrics driven improvement.

  1. SAP Licensing & Audits

  • Experience supporting licensing awareness/optimization and contributing to audit/compliance readiness through

governance, documentation discipline, and collaboration with vendor management/procurement.

  1. Environment Management

  • Provide leadership input into SAP environment management, including landscape design, transport strategy, and release

coordination, in collaboration with operations teams.

  1. Basis, Security, Build Work Zone

  • Bring broad SAP platform understanding across technical domains (e.g., Portal, Solution Manager, and related SAP

technologies) to support informed governance decisions and cross team alignment.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership capability with proven ability to drive initiatives and influence outcomes in complex environments.

  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical topics effectively to diverse

stakeholders.

  • Broad understanding of SAP enterprise platforms and components.

  • For cloud application development, experience with CAP, SAPUI5, and BTP is required.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).

  • 7+ years of experience working within complex SAP technical environments and leading SAP technical initiatives across

platform domains.

  • Experience with SAP landscapes spanning ECC, S/4HANA, SAP BTP, and hybrid hosting models.
