The Opportunity
The Prince Albert Youth Residence is accepting applications for a Facility Nurse for an appointment to a permanent full-time position. We are looking for motivated and positive professionals to work as part of our team. The Prince Albert Youth Residence is a remand, secure and open custody youth facility located in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
As a Nurse, you will:
- Be a compassionate, respectful and empathetic individual who is eager to accept the challenges of working in a custody setting;
- Be adaptable and able to perform effectively in a diverse and changing work environment;
- Work independently, and as part of a team of health care professionals who provide care to youth in a custody setting;
- Be a confident, positive role model for youth in a highly complex, challenging work environment;
- Ensure efficient and effective client care delivery;
- Conduct nursing assessments, develop care plans, and provide direct client care as needed;
- Monitor client progress and respond to medical emergencies promptly;
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with regulatory and employer standards;
- Use critical thinking skills to exercise sound judgement, solve problems and apply appropriate interventions; and
- Report to the Charge Nurse and perform related duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate
You will have knowledge of:
- Adolescent development and behaviour to support positive change;
- Medical and psychiatric theories and related intervention strategies;
- Drug/alcohol withdrawal indicators and effects;
- Communicable disease priorities within a congregate living population;
- Public health issues and risk factors;
- The effects of complex trauma on a youth population; and
- Multi-cultural beliefs, values and perspectives with particular emphasis on Indigenous individuals and groups.
You will have demonstrated the ability to:
- Actively promote preventative health measures;
- Assess emergent and non-urgent medical and mental health conditions;
- Initiate referrals and collaborate with community stakeholders to contribute to successful reintegration planning;
- Recognize, support, respect and welcome diversity of employees and clients;
- Develop and maintain respectful, honest, professional relationships with a diverse range of individuals and co-professionals, both within and outside the Ministry;
- Resolve conflict effectively within the workplace and between agencies;
- Record, organize and present, verbally and in writing, information in a complete, accurate and timely manner at a level that is appropriate to the audience;
- Plan, prioritize and organize a demanding workload; and
- Recognize and evaluate safety and/or potential risks to self and others and use good judgement and take steps to minimize and/or resolve them.
You will be:
- Team-orientated;
- Positive/open-minded and demonstrates initiative and flexibility;
- Client service oriented in order to meet client needs in a timely and conscientious manner; and
- An effective communicator with solid interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
To be considered for this position, you will be actively registered (or eligible for registration) with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) or the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS). You must have a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider certification, recognized by your respective licensing body.
The hours of work are currently day, evening and weekend shifts.
