Sr. Product Owner, Advice Platforms
What you'll be doing
As an integral member of CIBC’s Digital Strategy, Advice & Open Banking team and reporting to the Director, Advice Platforms, the Senior Product Owner, Advice Platforms will support our existing financial planning and advice platforms to drive business outcomes in alignment with CIBC’s strategy. In this role, “platform” refers to our vendor-integrated advice ecosystem, and “product delivery” refers to the ongoing enhancements and updates provided to our frontline and client end users. This role will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing these platforms and ensuring their continual reliability and value to all end user groups. This is achieved through collaborating with internal teams and vendors to deliver updates, resolve issues, and implement enhancements that improve platform capabilities and user experience. In addition to platform maintenance and support, the Senior Product Owner will have the opportunity to lead strategic initiatives aimed at evolving and transforming our advice platforms. Future projects may include expanding platform capabilities or integrating new technologies to enhance advisor efficiency and the overall client experience.

How You’ll Succeed

Platform Strategy & Management – Responsible for establishing a clear platform vision and its ongoing evolution, ensuring all enhancements, maintenance, and strategic initiatives are guided by this vision and aligned with business objectives. Maintain the ongoing performance of vendor-integrated advice platforms by monitoring platform operational effectiveness, managing release cycles and/or product deliveries, resolving issues, and identifying opportunities for incremental enhancements.

Product Delivery & Ownership – Take full accountability for delivering enhancements and updates, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Demonstrate initiative and leadership in overcoming challenges, ensuring that product delivery aligns with business objectives and user needs. Operate effectively within both agile and waterfall methodologies, adapting to organizational processes and established frameworks.

Requirements Gathering & Translation – Engage with stakeholders to collect business needs and user feedback. Translate these requirements into clear, actionable user stories or detailed project specifications, ensuring shared understanding among business partners, technical teams, and end users. Leverage your technical comfort and communication skills to bridge the gap between business and technology.

Product Backlog & Roadmap Management – Maintain and prioritize a well-organized product backlog and roadmap, balancing immediate operational requirements with future opportunities. Apply analytical and critical thinking skills to assess platform data and other relevant inputs, enabling informed prioritization decisions that ensure our advice platforms continue to deliver value and support CIBC’s strategic vision.

Stakeholder Management – Build and nurture relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, including business leaders and stakeholders, frontline support staff, and technical teams. Foster transparent, proactive communication to provide updates on platform status, upcoming releases and/or product deliveries, risks, and changes. Manage expectations and facilitate alignment across all parties.

Vendor Engagement - As required, establish and maintain effective partnerships with platform vendors. Ensure service agreements, deliverables, and performance standards are consistently met, and collaborate with vendors to support platform maintenance, enhancements, and issue resolution.
Who You Are

You can demonstrate 2 to 5 years of work experience in a product owner role, maintaining and prioritizing product backlogs, developing roadmaps, and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. It’s an asset to have CSPO / PSPO certifications.

You can demonstrate 2 to 5 years of work experience utilizing Agile and Waterfall methodologies with proficiency in both agile (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and traditional waterfall delivery models, with the ability to select and adapt approaches as needed. It’s an asset if you have financial and goal planning literacy.

You can demonstrate 1 to 3 years of work experience with competitive analysis and market trend identification to make informed product decisions and drive continuous improvement. It’s an asset if you have experience in Business Intelligence/Analytics tools (Tableau, Adobe Analytics)

You can demonstrate work experience in leading and guiding cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative environment, and driving accountability for results. It’s an asset if you have awareness of user experience and interface design principles
