About the role

  • Location: Hybrid, based at our head office in Surrey, BC, with 2 in-office days per week.
  • Duration: January 25th, 2026 - April 24th, 2026.
  • Compensation: Based on experience and number of completed work terms:
    • Work Term 1 (first work term): $22.50/hr
    • Work Term 2: $25.00/hr
    • Work Term 3: $27.50/hr
    • Work Term 4: $29.00/hr
    • Work Term 5: $30.00/hr
    • Work Term 6: $31.00/hr

C++ Software Developer Intern

Safe Software is looking for a C++ Software Developer Intern to join our Engine Product Development group to support the functionality of new and existing features in our FME product platform.

Our student internships have the opportunity to be hybrid/on-premise at our office based in Surrey, BC, Canada. In order to provide the best onboarding and mentorship experience, this position will require the intern to work on-premise at least 2 days per week at our office based in Surrey, BC, Canada. The remaining 3 days can be worked remotely from home.

About The Team

Our Product Development department spans across our entire FME Platform (Form, Engine, Flow, Flow Hosted and Mobile) and is subdivided into specialized cross-functional teams that support the development cycle from end-to-end. Within your assigned development team, you may have the opportunity to work closely with developers, quality analysts, a product manager, and a UX/UI designer to assist with new feature development and see the software development life cycle from end-to-end. Our primary focus is to write high performance code that can scale with FME’s growing list of functionalities.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a C++ Software Developer Intern, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Write and design readable, maintainable production-level code in C++.
  • Analyze and debug complex issues and help resolve them.
  • Participate and share ideas in daily team stand-up meetings.
  • Collaborate with other team members through peer code reviews and brainstorming sessions.
  • Learn and explore new and existing technologies during your day-to-day work term.

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

  • Proficient with C++ including modern features.
  • Effective communication skills to convey technical topics (synchronously and asynchronously).

  • Ability to work independently and ask questions as needed.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and exchange meaningful feedback.
  • Ability to think analytically and propose solutions to solve problems.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and spoken).
  • Strong organizational skills to manage time and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • A passion for coding and curiosity about new tools and technologies.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a willingness to bring forward new ideas.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)
These aren’t required, but they can help you ramp up more quickly:

  • Experience with Visual Studio
  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub
  • Exposure to computational geometry
  • Understanding of floating-point error mitigation
  • Experience with Agile practices (e.g. Kanban or Scrum)
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence)
  • Previous co-op or relevant experience in software development
  • Enrolment in your 3rd year or higher (preferred)
