The opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists in our Materials department within the Metals division for a Parts Data Technician located in Fort Saskatchewan. The purpose of this position is to manage and coordinate the setup, modification, and disposal of spare parts and component lists, ensuring accurate and reliable data to support Planning, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, and Operations.

In this role, you will be accountable for:

  • Setting up, updating, and managing maintenance item master data, including component lists and related spare parts, within the computerized maintenance management system in alignment with asset data management standards.
  • Ensuring critical spare parts are available to support effective maintenance planning and asset reliability.
  • Collaborating with Inventory and Procurement teams to maintain accurate and current information on part specifications, pricing, lead times, supersessions, and obsolescence.
  • Initiating and facilitating spare parts reviews with Maintenance, Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure data accuracy and alignment across departments.
  • Identifying obsolete or redundant spare parts and inventory items for potential archiving or disposal by the Supply Chain team.
  • Coordinating with the Asset Data Clerk to ensure parts data accurately reflects asset setups, relocations, and disposals.
  • Recommending enhancements to spare parts taxonomy and data management standards to improve consistency, efficiency, and system usability.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of asset and spare parts data, including part creation (nomenclature), cross-referencing, and maintaining asset bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Identifying and developing item master records and spare parts lists for critical maintainable assets.

Skills and attributes for success:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial experience in maintenance, engineering, or supply chain management.
  • A trade certification in mechanical or parts-related disciplines is considered an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of common industrial equipment and components.
  • Strong understanding of industry best practices in managing parts and asset data.
