In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $72,625 to $121,041.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

Position
Reporting to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Office, the Manager, Undergraduate Office, leads the development of policies, strategies, programs and frameworks within the Undergraduate program.
The Manager is responsible for a team which consists of a blend of front-line supervisors (support staff) and support staff and which is focused on the delivery of programs and services within the Alberta School of Business Undergraduate program. Serves as an expert strategic leader to academic leadership, faculty, staff and/or the general public on program/ service policy and process.
The Manager generates excitement, engagement, support and momentum for the team's programs and initiatives, while working to remove barriers to successful implementation. The Manager is accountable for making decisions on the effective and efficient design and delivery of the Undergraduate Office's programs and services. As a University leader, the incumbent translates their strategic vision into operational/action plans for their staff, thereby providing a direct line of sight to their accountabilities.
The role is expected to operate as a second in command for when the Associate Dean is unavailable, or away from the office.
In all facets of this role, the Manager endeavors to integrate and advance the University's commitments to equity, diversity and inclusivity.
Duties
- Provides professional and managerial expertise and know-how to the development, maintenance and operation of an academic program or student service.
- In conjunction with a Service Partner (Finance), manages the finances for the academic program or student service. Accounts for the assigned budget.
- Evaluates the performance of the current program or service. Manages data and develops insights to make process improvements.
- Ensures effective operation of Undergraduate Office responsibilities.
- Develops and monitors an effective business continuity plan for services provided by the Undergraduate Office.
- Assists academic leadership with all levels of planning for the specific academic program or service.
- Creates an environment that encourages innovation and enables change. Maintains awareness of internal and external influences/factors impacting the University (e.g., strategic, operational, environmental, budgetary, and legislative changes) and anticipates and recommends shifts in or new strategies and initiatives to address institutional potential challenges, issues and impacts on the institution and workforce.
- Completes environment scanning and assesses opportunities and risks related to the program or service. Sees connections, patterns or trends in the information available and identifies their implications.
- Responds to requests from leadership for additional information to support decision-making. Uses key analytics to create statistical reports and analysis.
- Is organizationally aware and is expected to recognize and understand the diverse and sensitive context in which the program or service operates.
- Ensures undergraduate enrollment targets are met by developing strategies and implementing actions for various applicant pools, in collaboration with central recruiting efforts and through joint programs with other faculties.
- Sets and communicates clear performance expectations for staff. Removes barriers to staff achieving goals.
- Gives honest feedback to staff, consistently recognizes performance but also effectively identifies and coaches performance issues.
- Creates an environment where diverse ideas, perspectives, and achievements are recognized, rewarded and celebrated.
- Fosters cooperation, collaboration, and communication to create consensus and accomplish objectives.
- Identifies and recommends responses to emerging issues that affect the program or service. Uses data and evidence to inform decision-making. Involves the right people in decision-making. Escalates decisions that are beyond scope of accountability or those that will set precedent.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree.
- 5 or more years of senior level management experience in successfully leading and supervising staff.
- Thorough knowledge and experience with the University of Alberta academic regulations, including admissions, records, registration, evaluation and grading procedures, examinations, academic standing and appeals, and grievances.
- Strong technological and software proficiency, including data analysis and management, word processing, online communications and other applications.
- High level of analytical and problem-solving skills and critical-thinking skills.
- Planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Identifies key influencers and creates and uses internal and external networks to shape objectives and build support for ideas, initiatives and directions.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with team members from different areas of expertise, and with senior administrators in an organization. registration, evaluation and grading procedures, examinations, academic standing and appeals, and grievances.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master's degree (MBA preferred).
- Experience managing multiple teams.
- Experience planning and managing budgets.
- Experience with risk assessment.
- Track record of providing a motivating work environment, building relationships internally and externally, and planning workflows to meet multiple goals and deadlines.
