About the role


What You Will Do

  • provide technical expertise in the design, maintenance, modification and installation of equipment and machinery in the manufacturing process, including technical assistance for problem solving analysis;
  • develop mechanical design packages, including the definition of functional specifications and providing cost estimates and technical schedules for equipment addition, replacement or upgrade;
  • participate in assigned major capital projects and/or modifications from start to finish, including equipment reception, commissioning, and acceptance;
  • collaborate with all levels of operational personnel and internal company support teams to accomplish objectives;
  • provide support and technical training to plant maintenance on newly implemented equipment/systems;
  • provide leadership with our teams to accomplish project objectives, and provide direction to Michelin and contract Engineering resources from our local, and global teams assisting on projects; and,
  • assist with machine safety & ergonomic risk assessments. Help to facilitate the use of our tools to assess the severity and accessibility of hazards and incorporate the output of the tool into the design solution.

NOTE: this role frequently requires work over holidays and shutdown periods. It should be an expectation of the applicant that they may be required to work most holidays and take time off in lieu.

What You Will Bring

  • a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education/experience;
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical design with exposure to pneumatic/hydraulic control system design;
  • experience with SolidWorks 3D including complex multi-part assemblies. AutoCAD experience is also beneficial for 2D;
  • previous industrial mechanical design experience, including design expertise in theory, operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment;
  • experience with mechanical design and safety standards;
  • background in strength of materials and material selection, including welding procedure knowledge;
  • experience in project team leadership or project management;
  • strong communication skills with the ability to influence and resolve issues;
  • both written and verbal communication skills are essential, including the ability to develop positive relationships with internal plant customers;
  • ability to set and achieve goals with minimum supervision;
  • demonstrated solid teamwork, interpersonal, leadership and planning skills
  • ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality in dealings with outside contractors and equipment suppliers; and,
  • ability to communicate with French counterparts on technical issues is an additional asset, but not a requirement.
