About Us

The mission of the Faculty of Social Science is to contribute to society's development through the education of students, the creation and dissemination of knowledge, and the establishment of innovative partnerships with industry, government, and other educational institutions globally.

The Social Science Technology Services (SSTS) department delivers the best technology services and support to faculty, staff, and students in the Faculty of Social Science in a helpful and friendly manner. We will do our part to contribute to "the best student experience" and to support the faculty to fulfill the research and teaching mission of the University.

Responsibilities

The Technical Support position provides front-line technical support, providing basic technical support to faculty and staff and assisting with incoming Helpdesk requests. The incumbent will be responsible for carrying out deployment of computer equipment to faculty and staff within the Faculty of Social Science and providing routine maintenance of computer systems. The incumbent will ensure that systems are fully functioning, upgrades and patches are installed appropriately, and file and data back-up services are in place. The incumbent will adhere to prescribed procedures and policies, maintain accurate records, summarize and compile data and results for dissemination, and perform other related tasks as required.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Community College Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in a related field

Experience:

  • 1 year of work experience providing support and customer service

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Familiarity with computer operating systems, networks, and applications software
  • Familiarity with installation of desktops, laptops, and portable devices
  • Ability to follow formal business practices and processes with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
  • Communication skills with confidence interacting with individuals at all levels of an organization
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with faculty and staff
  • Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve issues
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
