About the role

A full-service firm located in Brampton and Georgetown, providing Civil, Commercial, and Estate Litigation, Family Law, Real Estate, Wills and Estates, Employment Law, and Corporate and Commercial services.

We are seeking a Litigation Associate with 3+ years of law firm experience. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented and able to demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills along with the desire to grow with the firm long-term. A dedicated team player with a desire to meet the client's needs and practice excellent advocacy, both written and oral. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with experienced professionals, gain direct experience in a dynamic and challenging legal environment and have the opportunity to handle your own files.

Role Description We are searching for a Litigation Associate in our Brampton location with some remote work flexibility. The Litigation Associate will be working with two of our firm's Founding Partners and will responsible for managing and preparing for motions, conducting legal research, handling examinations, and representing clients in court. Daily tasks also include client consultations, drafting pleadings and motion materials, and collaborating with the Partners on your files. We are looking for someone eager to grow their practice, learn more and have opportunities to attend and handle matters in court.

This is an excellent opportunity for legal professionals who are passionate about litigation and want to build their career in a supportive, client-focused environment. While all candidates are welcome to apply, we have a preference for candidates with three or more years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities Include, Among Others

  • Managing civil, commercial and/or estate litigation matters.
  • Managing your own set of litigation files from start to finish.
  • Working closely with other lawyers as co-counsel on court proceedings.
  • Drafting pleadings, motion materials, correspondence, settlements, and other documents.
  • Preparing draft materials and/or all materials required for discoveries and cross-examination opportunities.
  • Conducting or assisting on discoveries, motions, applications, trials, mediations, etc.
  • Liaison with other practice groups with duties related to client relationship management and firm marketing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

  • 3+ years of civil, commercial and/or estate litigation experience.
  • Strong Knowledge of civil procedure and practice.
  • In-court experience, in person and virtually.
  • Drafted claims, defences, applications, motions, affidavits, factums, and other litigation documents.
  • Mediation experience.
  • Experience working with expert witnesses.
  • Experience preparing clients for hearings and examinations.
  • Experience using legal software and other practice-based software such as CanLII, Caselines and other litigation software.
  • Experience with all word processing tools including Microsoft Office, advanced PDFs.
  • Experience with legal software, such as Clio.
