About the Unit:
The McGill Mastercard Foundation Transitions Project’s goal is to facilitate Scholars’/Alums’ transition into the workforce for impact across Africa, building on the Scholars Program supporting academic success of talented Africans committed to giving back to their communities.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Program Administrator, the incumbent provides logistical, administrative, and communications support to ensure the smooth operation of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. This role assists with day-to-day activities, event coordination, and information management to support scholars and alumni throughout their journey.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and posting content regularly for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program website, and LinkedIn pages, as well as content new scholars fit for multiple platforms (e.g., pre-arrival email, webinars, newsletters, website, etc...)
- Supports the planning and logistics of major scholar events such as pre-arrival onboarding, orientation, special events (e.g. McGill Africa Umoja Summit), trainings, convocation, and end-of-program celebrations.
- Perform and organize activities to support the unit's daily operations, ensuring that administrative services are carried out in accordance with established goals and objectives.
- Provide coordinating support to the larger Program Team in developing and implementing all Programming and activities for scholars/alumni aligned with the Scholars Program's values and objectives.
- Foster relationships with student groups, services, staff/faculty, and existing mentorship programs and partners, Alumni Relations, the McGill Alumni Africa Network, mentors, and relevant organizations
- Contribute to ensuring the monitoring and reporting of the activities of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program to ensure continuous feedback and program improvement.
- At request, participates in specific assignments of a variable nature usually involving scholar and alumni engagement projects.
Supports the Mastercard Foundation Scholars team in gathering and disseminating information on the above activities, ensuring open communication and information flows between Scholars/Alums, prospects, and decision-makers at McGill. The list of functions outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks that an incumbent may perform.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- An undergraduate degree in an appropriate field of study is considered an asset.
- Experience with the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship program is considered a strong asset.
- Project coordination or project management experience.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English are required.
- Fluency in oral and written French and knowledge of universities environment, an asset.
- Microsoft suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Internet savvy and comfort with online video platforms (like Zoom) with proven presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, with the ability to set priorities and multi-task.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated aptitude for systems thinking, with acute strategic and analytical skills.
- Proven talent for problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability to work under stress.
- Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 (Fluent) on a scale of 0-4.
