Accounting Clerk - Accounts Payable
(PERMANENT FULL-TIME)
The City of Trail is seeking a qualified individual to fill the full-time position of Accounting Clerk – Accounts Payable.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, the individual will be responsible for providing day-to-day accounting support and functions and to serve as first contact for the public as it relates to the provision of City services, specifically in the Finance Department. The primary emphasis of the position is to provide all day-to-day accounting support for the accounts payable function, provide data gathering assistance, and account balance analysis.
Overview

Payables Data entry, ensuring accuracy from receipt through approval

Reviews and reconciles invoice batches to ensure input accuracy and verify supporting documentation

Ensures all payments obtain appropriate approval prior to issuance

Processes Preauthorized Payments, Electronic Funds Transfers, Cheque payments, and government filings
-
Preforms monthly close procedures including reconciling subledger accounts and creating journal entries as necessary

Responds to public inquiries related to services, billings, payments and any other general matters

Provides back up support to Accounting Clerk – Taxation/Utilities
Qualifications

Enrolled in a recognized accounting program with the completion of at least the second level of the program, or demonstrated equivalency

A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in an accounting department, preferably in a municipal setting

Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public and to maintain positive relationships
-
Able to manage responsibilities independently while maintaining high standards of quality

Proficient in using MS Office Suite

Experienced with Vadim for municipal financial systems, including data entry, reporting, and workflow management is desirable
-
Familiar with Laserfiche for digital records management, document retrieval, and secure archiving is desirable
