The DeGroote School of Business is hiring people to invigilate exams. This is a casual position. Hours are occasional and will vary according to exam schedules.

The purpose of invigilation is to ensure that all students write examinations under uniform conditions in an orderly and undisturbed manner. It is your responsibility to ensure that all students comply with Undergraduate Examinations Policy as approved by Senate.

Job Description

Job Summary:

Performs the set-up of examination rooms, and monitoring of students during examinations according to established procedures. Responsible for the review and formatting of test and exam materials and follow-up with faculty and academic departments.

Accountabilities:

  1. Provide information and orientation to Invigilator I.
  2. Review, format, and print test and exam materials in accordance with established guidelines and standards.
  3. Liaise with faculty and academic departments regarding the administration of test and exam materials.
  4. Distribute, collate and collect examination papers, answer booklets, and associated exam materials.
  5. Monitor students during examinations and escort students, as required.
  6. Monitor and respond to inquiries from students, faculty, and academic departments in person, over email, or on the phone, based on established guidelines. Escalates required.
  7. Ensure adherence to examination regulations.
  8. Administer student sign-ins.
  9. Complete and submit incident reports as required.
  10. Enter, record, and maintain information in spreadsheets and databases.
  11. Ensure desk and workstations are in clean working condition.
  12. Act as a Scribe for students according to what the student is dictating.
  13. Act as a Reader and read examination papers clearly.
  14. Make pre-scribed announcements throughout the examination period.
  15. Review identification of and return completed examination materials to authorized faculty or academic personnel.
  16. Set up test and examination arrangements including technical support.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Prior customer service experience is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and handling of paperwork.
  • Prolonged periods of monitoring students.

Additional Information:

It is the duty of the invigilator to constantly watch over the assigned area, looking for student needs and the occurrences of any irregularities. The ability to be alert and to move around the exam location is key. You must be able to follow instructions. You must be able to work alone or in a group. Reading and writing the English language is mandatory.

Must be available to work in person.
