Status: Full-Time 12 Month Term contract (37.5 hours per week)
Salary Range: $56, 774, - $62, 668 annually
The Youth Employment position will plan, develop, implement, and grow employment programming for youth age 13-24 facing barriers to education and employment using mentoring and out of school time philosophies. This role is part of a partnered multidisciplinary collaborative to identify, engage, and support youth living in the Millwoods area and surrounding communities.
Through relationship building, mentorship, and employment readiness programming, the position supports youth in identifying their goals, developing job readiness skills, and accessing education, volunteer and employment opportunities that lead to positive career pathways.
The key responsibilities of this position will include:
- Network and collaborate with partner agencies, schools, employers and youth serving organizations acting as a liaison to identify opportunities, coordinate supports, share information, and strengthen collaborative youth employment initiatives specifically in the Millwoods community.
- Actively engage youth in schools and community settings, confidently initiating conversations about employment programming and encouraging youth participation.
- Assess youth who are interested in the program, and support registration ensuring program expectations and outcomes are clearly understood.
- Work alongside youth to identify their interests, strengths and goals, supporting them to develop individualized employment and education plans.
- Provide consistent, strength-based mentoring and support to youth throughout their participation, supporting them to build confidence, workplace skills and achieve their goals.
- Work with the Millwoods collaborative partners to collectively assess the overall needs of youth and provide shared support.
- Design and facilitate group-based and one-on-one employment preparedness programming using mentoring and youth-centered approaches.
- Develop and coordinate opportunities for youth including foundational skill development, work experience placements, volunteer opportunities post-secondary exploration, and career development.
- Foster safe, constructive, and positive relationships that support youth well-being and personal growth and increased confidence in employment settings.
- Demonstrate creativity, comfortability and innovation in engaging with youth in Millwoods community settings and partner locations to encourage positive involvement.
- Participate in program evaluation and reporting ensuring targets and partnership goals are achieved.
- Maintain up-to-date electronic casework notes, statistics and other required reporting in compliance with relevant standards, policies and processes.
The successful candidate will have:
- A diploma or degree in the areas of Human Services, Social Work, Education, or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years combined experience in a role involving youth employment programming, human resources and/or youth education/training
- Strong partnership development and relationship building skills with youth, community partners, schools and employers.
- Experience working with youth ages 12 – 18 with strong knowledge of the challenges faced by vulnerable and marginalized young people Culturally responsive experience working alongside indigenous and multicultural youth and their families navigating intersecting challenges and increased vulnerability.
- Ability to work 5 early evenings per week, with occasional weekend availability to accommodate meetings or workshops with youth.
- Flexibility to shift to day-time hours in the summer and during spring break to accommodate programming needs.
- Comfortable facilitating programming and delivering skill-development workshops.
- Demonstrated organizational, communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgement and sound decision making.
Candidates must be capable of performing independently as well as part of a team environment and have excellent interpersonal skills.
