About the role

We're a not-for-profit mental health centre based in Calgary, with locations across Alberta. Our mission is to build good mental health and well-being so everyone can thrive in their community.

Role Summary

The Altadore Program is part of Wood’s Homes’ Therapeutic Group Care (TGC) services, which provide community-based programs designed to meet the unique needs of youth requiring more intensive support than a typical family setting, but less than Therapeutic Campus-Based Care (TCBC). This six-bed program supports male youth in their transition to early adulthood, emphasizing that healing and learning occur through meaningful relationships.

The Supervisor holds overall responsibility for program accountability, development, and coordination. This role provides strong leadership to ensure exceptional delivery of high-quality services and fosters a culture of safety and compliance with the organization’s Health and Safety Management System.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and develops programs within the mission and values of Wood’s Homes and in accordance with agency Policies and Procedures, Collective Agreement, Accreditation Standards, etc.
  • Provides weekly supervision, staff training, evaluation, recruitment, and disciplinary action necessary within the guidelines set by Senior Management to all program staff.
  • Ensures that approved clinical case management and record keeping procedures are practiced according to Wood’s Homes quality improvement guidelines.
  • Assists/advises Managers, Supervisors and Programs with day-to-day operations as needed and shares regular on-call responsibilities.
  • Regularly reviews all treatment interventions and case management used in the provision of treatment.
  • Assumes responsibility for the development, review, and adherence of the program budget.
  • Establishes and maintains good relationships with Funders and referral sources, and seeks out new referral sources.
  • Ensures that all communication material and information pertaining to programs are current and of excellent quality.
  • Executes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Programs.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Social Sciences or related field at the undergraduate level required (graduate preferred).
  • Current proof of professional registration may be required for certain diplomas or degrees.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience working with young people and families.
  • Experience managing various crisis situations and ability to appropriately assess and respond to risk.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of Trauma-Informed Care, mental health, and substance use, along with effective implementation strategies for clients and their families.
  • Enthusiasm for providing treatment in the context of a family system.
  • Working knowledge of Children and Family Services and transitioning young people into adulthood.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
  • Current certification in CPR/Standard First Aid.
  • Must have own transportation and a valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Drivers Abstract with no more than 6 demerits.
  • Experience with supervising and managing staff.
  • Personal suitability is important.
