The opportunity
Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking temporary Heavy Equipment Technicians/Heavy Duty Mechanics to join the Maintenance & Essential Services team to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks On/Off to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all year long. Standard work schedules are of 12 hours per day.
The main pick-up points are St. John’s, Gander, Deer Lake, Happy Valley-Goose Bay in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal, QC.
Reporting to an Activity Superintendent - Maintenance, the incumbent will be responsible to diagnose, repair, adjust, overhaul, maintain, and test Diesel Engine Equipment, Small Mobile Equipment,and Light Vehicles, while actively working to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Please note these are temporary positions, with the possibility of extension thereafter.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot Diesel Engines (Caterpillar)
- Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulics
- Maintain mobile construction equipment such as skid steers, loaders and excavators and
- Maintain heavy trucks such as fuel trucks and vacuum trucks
- Automotive repairs and maintenance
- Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators and software to diagnose engine problems.
- Execute preventative and predictive maintenance programs
- Operate Service Truck
- Work effectively in a team environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic/Automotive Mechanic with a valid Interprovincial Red Seal.
- 3 + years of professional experience in a similar position.
- Experience with Diesel Engines required
- Experience with Light Mobile Equipment preferred
- Previous service truck experience preferred
- Ability to use drawings, manuals and software if required for repairs or troubleshooting.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or in collaboration with others.
- Advanced computer skills
- Able to work on site on a Fly-in/Fly-out schedule.
