Project Designer, Land Development Engineering

D.M. Wills Associates Limited is in search of a Project Designer to join our Land Development Engineering Department.
Land development is a multi-step process, with inputs required from a wide range of supporting disciplines. The success of these projects depends on technical knowledge and experience, pro-active project management, clear communication and solutions-oriented problem solving. Wills provides a full suite of land development services to help our clients get where they are going. Our experts include engineers, project managers, professional planners, biologists, hydrogeologists, contract administrators, surveyors and inspectors who work closely together to understand the big picture and how each piece of a project is interconnected. We believe that the better integrated our land development services are, the greater the benefits are to the entire project.
Your opportunity as a Project Designer is to strengthen our site servicing and stormwater management teams by preparing engineering drawings and technical documents. You will play an integral role in our land development services, building on a strong foundation of partnership to provide the best solutions for our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creating contract drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D design software including site plans, grading plans, servicing plans and erosion and sediment control plans.
- Drafting design/technical reports
- Completing field reviews,
- Preparing cost estimates and quantity calculations
- Preparing tender documents
- Preparing various design concepts and presentation materials including drawings.
- Liaise with staff, clients, agencies, and sub-consultants throughout the design phase.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and solve design issues.
- Provide updates on the progress of design projects.
- Ensure the design integrity of all aspects of projects through design development, detail design, tendering and construction.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills:
- Seeking Project Designers of varying experience levels who are motivated to learn, collaborate, and deliver quality results.
- Civil Engineering Technician/Technology Diploma.
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent work ethic and ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
- Excellent time management skills to meet project timelines.
- General knowledge of various design standards and requirements, such as OPSS and OPSD.
Additional qualifications that are considered an asset:
- Experience with the ESRI ArcMap Geographic Information System (GIS) software package.
- Holder of, or eligible to obtain, an Ontario Class G Driver’s License.
