About the role

Role: Data Governance Consultant Length: 6 months (long term extension likely) Location: Remote

Your New Company Our client is a mission-driven organization focused on delivering meaningful impact through data-driven decision-making. They are investing heavily in strengthening enterprise data capabilities, with a key focus on governance, compliance, and data quality to support scalable and secure operations.

Your New Role As a Data Governance Consultant, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing enterprise-wide data governance frameworks and capabilities. You will lead initiatives focused on data quality, metadata management, lineage tracking, and compliance, leveraging Microsoft Purview and modern data platforms. You will partner cross-functionally to elevate governance maturity, establish standards, and drive adoption across both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This includes building governance policies, enabling data classification and cataloging, automating workflows, and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Need to Succeed 5+ years of experience in data governance, with a strong focus on implementing governance frameworks and technologies Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, including data cataloging, metadata management, classification, and lineage Proven experience developing and implementing enterprise-level governance policies, standards, and operating models Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and compliance best practices Experience defining data ownership models, stewardship roles, and governance processes Expertise in implementing data quality rules, validation frameworks, and monitoring processes Experience with data classification models, particularly for sensitive or regulated data Strong understanding of cloud data platforms, data architecture, and enterprise data ecosystems Ability to conduct governance maturity assessments and deliver actionable improvement roadmaps Experience driving governance adoption through training, workshops, and change management initiatives Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex data environments and recommend solutions Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business-friendly language Nice to Have: Experience working within regulated or non-profit environments Exposure to Canadian data privacy regulations and compliance frameworks Relevant certifications in Data Governance or Data Management (e.g., CDMP, DGSP)
