About the role

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Director of Merchandising and Marketing, the Retail Marketing Specialist is responsible for driving in-store traffic and sales through highly effective print marketing programs and flawless execution of brand assets across a 125-store convenience store and fuel network. The role is responsible for driving retail sales, building brand awareness, and developing innovative ways to connect with the Quickie customer through high-quality and consistent marketing and communication plans. Success in this role is measured by on-time execution of consistent brand standards and a measurable uplift in store traffic and customer engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Print and POS Marketing:

  • Leads planning, production, and distribution of monthly printed promotional materials (window clings, pump toppers, shelf talkers, danglers, posters, bollards, road signs, etc.) for all stores, including but not limited to Quickie. Other parties may include MacEwen Fuel, Car Wash, and alternative fuel properties.

  • Manages promotional calendars, creative briefs, copy, proofing, pre-production, and production checks to ensure accurate store-level assets.

  • Maintains store-level deployment lists and ensures on-time deliveries and installations.

  • Researches and develops new ways to communicate store offerings to current and aspirational customers, including but not limited to innovation in interior and exterior signage.

  • Maintains a Marketing Media Kit that includes empirical data on customers and locations, while showcasing investment opportunities for monthly promotional material. Media Kit will be reviewed annually with input from Category Management.

Store Outfitting & Brand Management:

  • Works with the construction team and owns the outfitting of new builds and renovations with interior institutional and promotional signage, fixture graphics, wayfinding, safety signage, forecourt treatments, price signage, roadside signage, and window graphics.

  • Manages brand standards across a portfolio of brands to ensure consistency throughout all aspects of implementation, including 3rd ensuring that Copyrights are properly used and enforced.

  • Coordinates permits, landlord approvals, and compliance requirements in coordination with the Real Estate Team, where applicable.

  • Develops and maintains brand guidelines and installation signage guides as accurate reference tools for stores.

  • Conducts post-mortems and audits to identify gaps and course-corrects for future campaigns.

Campaign and Offer Execution:

  • Translates promotional priorities into print tactics that drive traffic and basket growth, aligns timing and messaging with category pricing and operations.

  • Tracks execution and optimizes formats and frequency.

Events: Store Openings and Annual Tradeshow:

  • Plans, budgets, and executes store grand openings geared towards specific markets (vendor participation, marketing awareness, run-of-show, PR kit, local media, signage, swag, staffing and photography).

  • Works with residential and commercial business leadership to support marketing and advertising campaigns that support their growth objectives. Manages and creates print advertising campaigns (magazines, newspapers, local sponsorships) in both official languages when required.

  • Leads the annual tradeshow meeting: Venue selection, vendor booths, sponsorship packages, agenda, shipments, staffing and onsite logistics.

  • Plans and executes additional Quickie events, as required.

Branded Promotional Items:

  • Sources, produces, and manages branded merchandise (staff uniforms, notebooks, pens, lanyards, name badges, etc.) from design to delivery.

  • Ensures quality standards, brand consistency, and inventory management for uniforms and promotional materials.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partners with Operations, Category Management, Pricing, Facilities/Construction and Merchandising to coordinate shipments and support business goals.

  • Provides sign kits and instructions for store teams and resolves store-level issues swiftly.

  • Acts as the Retail Marketing point of contact to the Retail Category Managers and the Operational Territory Managers as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • 3-5 years in retail marketing, print production, and/or signage/wayfinding.

  • Multi-unit experience strongly preferred (convenience, QSR, grocery, fuel).

  • Strong vendor management and production knowledge (substrates, design, pre and post production, colour/font proofing, finishing).

  • Demonstrated experience executing large-scale print campaigns and store outfitting projects is an asset.

  • Proficient in project management and basic design collaboration.

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and deadline management.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to brief creatives/campaigns and guide installers.

  • Must have working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams.

  • Must have working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

  • Must be highly self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required, as this role will require travel to stores, job sites, and events.
