Development Engineer (Contract)
The Corporation of the Town of Tecumseh is currently recruiting for a progressive, dedicated, customer focused professional to fill the contract full-time position of Development Engineer.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager Engineering Services, the Development Engineer will be responsible for coordinating engineering projects that help facilitate growth and development in strategic areas of Town, directing contractors and consultants on infrastructure projects and engaging with various landowners, developers, and stakeholders. Responsible for various engineering projects and assignments, which involve the technical design and preparation of specifications, cost estimates, tender documents, and the administration of contracts for the construction of infrastructure and related assignments. Represent the Corporation and liaise with consultants during the construction of assigned projects, landowners and developers on development initiatives and applications. Review and approve matters related to site plan applications, plan of subdivision/development drawings and site servicing drawings for building permit applications related to industrial, institutional, and commercial properties that are submitted to the Town. Review and provide engineering comments on applications submitted to the Committee of Adjustment. Ensure staff familiarization with Provincial safety legislation and corporate safety policies and procedures, Town Standards and Engineering Best Practices.
The Development Engineer will research, prepare council reports, request for proposals, memos and other written correspondence as required. Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program. This position will be required to travel to offsite meetings and attend various job sites along with other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants are required to have a university degree in Civil Engineering or similar qualification in a related field. Project Management Professional designations or in-progress would be considered an asset. The successful candidate must be a licensed Professional Civil Engineer with substantial experience in design and construction of municipal infrastructure or an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T) working towards obtaining their P.Eng. The preferred candidate should have at least four (4) years progressive experience in engineering in an urban, semi-urban and rural municipal public works setting. This would include leadership and direction of staff, working knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal statues, and by-laws pertaining to the design and construction of municipal services. A valid Class G driver’s license and experience with civil engineering design software, as well as storm, water and sanitary modelling software, MS Office Suite and the internet are required.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability and knowledge of corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability. General knowledge of Municipal legislation and general business practices and protocol. In addition, the candidate will have proven leadership skills, commitment to service/program delivery, strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure. Strong interpersonal, commitment to diversity and inclusion and excellent communication skills would round off the ideal candidate.

Salary
The salary range for this contract full time, non-union position is currently at Level 4 ($101,434 - $118,664). This position is non-union and is subject to an employment agreement.
