Intermediate Accountant
About the role
Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for an Intermediate Accountant to join a dynamic and collaborative finance team. This role supports the monthly close, financial reporting, audit preparation, and business operations. It’s an opportunity to help modernize systems and processes, contribute to internal reporting, and influence improvements that create real value across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Drive timely and accurate month-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations
- Prepare financial reports for internal stakeholders and management
- Reconcile key balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations
- Produce stand-alone financial statements for subsidiary entities
- Support interim and year-end audits, including sample and data requests
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues
- File monthly GST/PST and WCB premiums
- Assist with operational reporting, such as labor hour analysis
- Provide vacation coverage for AR and AP functions as needed
- Conduct ad hoc financial analysis to support planning and decision-making
- Develop standard operating procedures and improve documentation
- Support system implementation and process improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- CPA designation in progress or completed (preferred)
- 2-3 years of full-cycle accounting experience, including monthly close
- Experience with NetSuite and/or Great Plains is a strong asset
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel (advanced level)
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a time-sensitive environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience supporting annual audits is an asset
- Process improvement mindset with curiosity and initiative
