As a Manager, BSAA a typical day might include:
Management
- Collaborating with the HR recruitment team, maintains, develops, and attracts skilled staff to the BSAA team
- Acting as liaison between direct reports and Account Executives when issues arise requiring attention
- Performing staff performance evaluations and makes recommendations as required
- Approving, monitoring, and tracking department vacation, sick, and remote workdays for direct reports, providing quarterly summaries to the Director of Commercial Lines
- Reviewing and monitoring any staff expenses for direct reports, including Continuing Education courses
- Collaborating with the Director of Commercial Lines to oversee the development of workflow systems to effectively and efficiently manage workload of the Commercial Insurance team
- Working with the Director of Commercial Lines and other department managers to allocate Commercial Lines accounts for marketing and account administration to ensure optimal efficiency and effectiveness
- Working with the Director of Commercial Lines and other department Managers to develop content and lead monthly round tables
- Acting as liaison between the Administration, Accounting, and Epic teams, which includes but is not limited to attending weekly Epic meetings; confirming licensing and back ups to administration; sharing accounting workflow changes, etc.
- Working with the Director of Commercial Lines and other department managers to develop and implement corporate initiatives as required by the Senior Management Team
- Reviewing monthly reports to ensure accounts are renewed
- Reviewing/Approving Monthly Timesheets for Non-Exempt direct reports
- Acting as back-up manager to other BSAA managers
- Leading the team and provides a work environment that is supportive of the productivity and morale of all staff
- Conducting process and needs assessments across the department, implementing initiatives for continuous improvement
- Executing and facilitating regular meetings with staff:
- Monitoring and auditing workflows
- Ensuring staff feel supported and heard by department leadership team
- Collaborating with staff to monitor Objectives & Key Results (OKRs)
- Immediately dealing with staff issues and working towards a timely resolution
- Developing and maintaining high service level standards for the department
- Effectively motivating and supervising employees, including team building
- Developing and maintaining high service level standards for the department
- Performing periodic file audits to ensure procedures are followed by all direct reports
Account Management and Broking Services Support
- Proactively obtaining underwriting information from potential and renewal clients
- Creating and sending submissions to underwriters (where re-marketing is required)
- Liaising with clients on the status of their request for coverage or renewal
- Presenting quotes and/or renewals to clients, obtaining orders and binding coverage with underwriters
- Maintaining a technical and service-oriented relationship with clients and underwriters
- Keeping the Account Executives up to date on the status of client accounts
- Providing friendly, professional service to customers and Account Executives
- Handling routine customer and Account Executive inquiries/concerns in a timely manner and to an agreed upon Practice Group standard
- Ensuring work is prompt, efficient, and accurate
- Providing support to BSAA staff and Account Executives on new business and complex renewals, including structuring insurance programs; strategizing marketing and negotiations approach; reviewing wordings; and assisting with cross-border placements
- Preparing submissions; sends to market; negotiates coverage and pricing; reviews and compares terms; reviews with Account Executives; binds coverage; and checks documentation for renewals and new business, as applicable
- Providing marketing and policy rating services
- Liaising with Account Executives to discuss client needs and make recommendations regarding terms and conditions obtained
- Providing ongoing servicing as required, negotiating midterm changes with insurers
- Preparing proposals for clients
- Creating and following up on abeyances and documentation requests
- Acting as technical support to staff for policy coverage and company underwriting information needs, including policy wording review/comparison and review of contract and lease agreements
- Attending client meetings as required

Must haves:
- Minimum 7 years Commercial insurance experience, consistently meeting internal core competencies
- RIBO license (Ontario) or equivalent license in the individual’s province of residence, with the ability to obtain a British Columbia license
You want a leg up?
- CAIB, CIP, CRM or other insurance designations, an asset
- Post Secondary Degree, considered an asset
- Experience using EPIC broker management system, considered an asset
