About the role
Reporting to the Quality Manager (or Director of Quality), the Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring and advancing product and supplier quality across manufacturing and the supply chain. They lead quality assurance, control, engineering, and issue-resolution activities to support continuous improvement, compliance, and customer satisfaction. Their responsibilities include overseeing internal manufacturing processes, managing supplier quality, improving and controlling processes, conducting internal and external audits, analyzing data and KPIs, maintaining ISO and related quality systems, supporting new product introductions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. This is a full time role based out of head office in Vaughan, ON.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and track all non-conformances (internal & external), initiate and assign Corrective Action Requests (CARs), and monitor containment, root cause analysis, and CAPA completion.
- Conduct and support inspections and audits: incoming, in-process, and final product (including FAI, supplier audits, and sampling).
- Maintain readiness for internal and external audits (ISO, UL/ULC, FM, USCG, etc.); plan and conduct internal audits, gather evidence, issue findings, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Assist regulatory bodies and certification agencies during audits and site visits; verify manufacturing adherence to approved procedures and conformance schedules.
- Develop, maintain, and control ISO 9001 Quality System Procedures (QSPs), site quality documentation, and records.
- Verify compliance of received goods (e.g., regulatory labels, painted parts, assemblies) against drawings, BoMs, and specifications.
- Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, Test, and Supply Chain teams to resolve quality issues, implement process improvements, and support new product introductions (NPI).
- Review and support engineering change activities (ECRs, BoM updates, temporary design deviations) and part approval processes (PPAP or equivalent).
- Analyze and report key quality metrics (yield, scrap, supplier performance, CAR trends) and drive continuous improvement initiative.
- Maintain quality documentation and tracking systems (SharePoint, databases) and support training or skill development within the Quality team.
- Support calibration programs across production, engineering, and laboratory equipment to ensure measurement accuracy and traceability.
- Ensure work is performed in compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards and compliance procedures.
Requirements and Skills:
- Post-secondary education in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in quality assurance/quality engineering in a manufacturing environment.
- Skilled in managing non-conformances, CARs, containment, RCA, and CAPA activities.
- Experience performing incoming, in-process, and final inspections, including FAI and supplier audits.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and maintaining readiness for internal/external audits (ISO, UL/ULC, FM, USCG).
- Ability to develop and maintain QSPs, quality documentation, and records.
- Proficient in verifying materials and assemblies against drawings, BoMs, and specifications.
- Familiar with ECRs, BoM updates, deviations, and PPAP or similar approval processes.
- Capable of analyzing and reporting quality metrics to support continuous improvement.
- Effective collaborator with Design, Manufacturing, Test, and Supply Chain teams.
- Proficient with SharePoint, quality databases, and supporting calibration programs.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Occasional travel within Canada is required.
