Job Description RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary We are seeking a Clinical Trial Financial Control Analyst to strengthen financial governance and controls across a large and complex portfolio of clinical trials. This role serves as an independent financial control function between clinical operations, billing and finance, ensuring that negotiated study budgets are accurately reconciled against services delivered, billed, and collected.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in identifying financial risks, ensuring billing integrity, supporting audit readiness and maintaining strong internal controls throughout the lifecycle of clinical trials.

General Duties

  • Analytically reconcile negotiated clinical trial budgets against actual clinical activities performed, including patient visits, procedures, milestones, and pass-through expenses,
  • Identify over-delivery, under-delivery, and structural budget deviations,
  • Quantify financial impact and flag material variances,
  • Validate that billing accurately reflects services delivered and contractual terms,
  • Detect missed, incorrect, or delayed billings,
  • Work closely with Billing Specialists to resolve discrepancies,
  • Reconcile billed revenue against cash received,
  • Monitor outstanding balances and identify delayed or missing sponsor payments,
  • Quantify financial exposure related to collections,
  • Perform detailed variance analysis explaining what occurred, why it occurred, and the financial impact,
  • Prepare structured monthly and quarterly reconciliation reports,
  • Escalate material financial risks and systemic issues to the CIM Portfolio Finance Lead,
  • Prepare final financial reconciliation at study close-out,
  • Ensure all billable items are invoiced and payments received,
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready documentation,
  • Ensure segregation of duties through independent review and approval.

Education / Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.

Work experience : Minimum 3-6 years of experience in research finance, project accounting, or financial analysis.

Required Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of oral and written French is required,
  • An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English.
  • Strong understanding of clinical research operations, sponsor agreements, and billing processes,
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities,
  • High attention to detail and sound professional judgment,
  • Experience in an academic hospital or research institute environment is an asset.

Additional information

Status : Permanent Full Time.

Pay Scale : $44,408.00 - $82,427.80. Commensurate with education & work experience.

Work Shift : Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Work Site : : Hybrid
