Manager, Customer Interconnections - FTT

Annual salary: $ 131,100.00 - 165,800.00
Position Highlights Join BC Hydro’s Transmission Load Interconnections team and play a key role in connecting some of BC’s largest industrial
customers to clean, reliable power. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Transmission Load Interconnections, you’ll lead a team
that delivers complex transmission interconnection projects from concept to commissioning, directly supporting the
province’s electrification and economic growth. In this dynamic leadership role, you’ll guide policy development, oversee
transmission tariff application, streamline customer interconnection processes, and partner with teams across BC Hydro.
You’ll help shape how major industrial loads, from mining to oil and gas, connect to BC Hydro’s power grid. If you thrive in a

What you'll do
Reporting to Sr. Manager, Transmission Load Interconnections, this position is responsible for the operation of transmission
load interconnection team including the delivery of interconnection projects and the management of applicable Tariffs,
policies, business practices, process and contracts.
The position has 3 major focus areas that include the following;
- Leadership - Provide inspirational leadership to team of interconnection managers and project support staff, creating a
stimulating, customer focused environment where team is successful delivering a large portfolio of transmission
interconnection projects from preliminary identification phases through the complete life cycle to commissioning. Manage
the portfolio level workflow and resource allocation for transmission interconnection projects in a fast-paced dynamic
environment where changes are constant. Develop succession plans, professional development plans, day to day coaching
and mentoring.
- Policy - Working with various stakeholders, to investigate the current applications of interconnection tariffs within the
transmission industrial customer sectors and provide recommendations for rationalization that are equitable and
transparent. Provide ongoing review, oversight and alignment that include recommendations for interconnection policy
issues and other interconnection challenges that present as BC Hydro expands its economic development opportunities
and implement the electrification plan. The manager will consult and collaborate with other internal BC Hydro departments
such as Customer Service, Regulatory, Legal, Finance, Planning, Engineering and external entries as appropriate. Develop
sound and justifiable responses and information pertaining large load interconnection customers, that will support BC
Hydro’s various regulatory initiatives including RRA, RDA and CPCN. Develop transmission instructions to document the
current policies and business practices related to transmission interconnection.
- Process - Builds, supports, and maintains partnerships with various groups across all Interconnections processes to
ensure the ongoing efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of Interconnections services to the customers.
- The individual will have good understanding of the functions, roles and responsibilities of various groups within BC Hydro
in relation to interconnections to the BC Hydro electric system to facilitate interactions with the large numbers of internal and
external contacts.

Provides managerial and organizational leadership in support of end-to-end Interconnections processes.

Assess the process of interconnection that are used for large customer loads and recommend and oversee the integration
and ongoing use of processes that are effective, efficient and responsive to the needs of the load customers.
- The manager will be responsible for recommending best practices in this area and for generating reports and metrics for
the processes that support continuous improvement. Provides technical leadership and advice in the implementation of and
ongoing effect of process improvements. Seeks new technology, methods and procedures that will benefit in the
development of change strategies including program, policy and procedure development, and facilitates their incorporation
and implementation into the business.
What you bring
- Bachelor or Masters Degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, business administration and project
management or equivalent educational qualifications.
- Minimum of 10 years progressive experience in a dynamic business environment, preferably including involvement in
utility processes, policy and strategy development, utility regulation, or interconnections.

Demonstrated leadership abilities - including alignment with BC Hydro core values.

Strong relationship, facilitation and management skills and the ability to work in an unstructured environment with senior
management and subject matter experts.

Ability to influence, a respected team player and a flexible self-starter.

Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills.

Superb presentation and writing skills to explain very complex matters in concise, logical, and easy to understand manner.

Sound knowledge of theories, practices and processes pertaining to strategic planning, analytical, problem solving and
project management.
- Good knowledge of system planning, operation, reliability related issues and ability to explain them to non-technical
audience.
- Thorough knowledge of BC Hydro Interconnections processes, Tariffs, policies and requirements for large load customers.
