What We Are Looking For As part of our Digital Solutions - Application team, the Clinical Informatics Consultant plays a key role in providing Health Information system development, support and maintenance. The Clinical Informatics Consultant uses expertise in nursing or a clinically related field for gathering business requirements, performing workflow analysis and process design, performing system upgrades, patches and enhancement, as well as maintaining up-to-date documentation for technical specs and guides.

With the goal of supporting patient care and clinical processes, the Clinical Informatics Consultant will support and modify our advanced clinical modules. As well, key aspects of this role include providing advice on the impact of changes and liaising with our software vendors.

What You Bring To The Role- Key IT resources for the support of Clinical Applications include but not limited to:

  • Meditech PCS (Patient Care System)
  • Meditech OM (Order Management)
  • Meditech EMR (Electronic Medical Record)
  • Meditech EDM (Emergency Department Management)
  • Meditech Web ED , Web Ambulatory and Surveillance
  • Meditech SUR (Operating Room Management)
  • Meditech ONC (Oncology)
  • Meditech eMAR/BMV (Electronic Medication Administration Record/Bedside Medication Verification)
  • GE CPN Fetal Monitoring
  • Phillips Cardiac Monitoring
  • other clinical applications such as Novari, eCTAS and Bedside PEWS
  • Identifies user requirements and prepares business and technical specifications.
  • Works collaboratively with others to identify opportunities for improving information management processes in all areas of the organization.
  • Participates in the identification and development of the content in collaboration with Educators for training programs and materials to support information technology solutions.
  • Assists with physician accounts setup in MEDITECH when necessary.
  • Acts as a liaison between the client, the vendor and the IT team.
  • Supports the development and implementation of downtime processes and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation.
  • Provides support by trouble shooting and responding to questions/challenges related to day to day use of applications documenting tasks within the IT incident management system.
  • Is a part of the “on call team”, providing support to end users during business and non-business hours through on-call phone
  • Maintains change management processes.
  • Works collaboratively with the clinical areas analyzing complex operations and clinical processes to facilitate decision making regarding systems.
  • Assists in the implementation of new clinical processes, identifies gaps to business requirements and provides recommendations for resolution.
  • Participates and leads in activities involved in software version upgrades: Tests new versions, learns new functionality, maps and develops process changes and training updates on the new system features.
  • Participates in the identification and development of policies and procedures related to initiatives.

Key accountabilities revolve around ensuring clinical solutions are properly implemented, tested, and aligned with project goals:

  • Requirement gathering and analysis,
  • Translate clinical needs into technical specifications that align with the solution capabilities
  • Design or configure the solution based on project requirements
  • Conduct testing activities, including issue tracking and resolution
  • Validate that delivered functionality meets the requirements and performs as expected
  • Deploy solution including data migration, cutover planning, etc.
  • Ensure proper configuration in pre-production and production environments
  • Create or update project-specific documentations; technical specs and configuration guides
  • Support the change management process
  • Works collaboratively with the clinical/business areas analyzing complex operations and business processes to facilitate decision making regarding systems.
  • Utilizes evidenced based practice and health care knowledge to optimize the design and flow of health information within the applications.
  • Assists in the implementation of new clinical processes, identifies gaps to clinical requirements and provides recommendations for resolution.
  • Participates and leads in activities involved in software version upgrades: Tests new versions, learns new functionality, maps and develops process changes on the new system features.
  • University degree in either Healthcare Science, Computer science or related discipline
  • 3 years recent application consultant experience preferred

Work Schedule Business Hours, with occasional off-shift requirements

Compensation BAND G

Range $49.30 - $60.53
