About the role

The Canadian Maritime Helicopter Program (CMHP) Training Engineer is a tactical and operational role responsible for leading and overseeing the technical content of the training program. The CMHP training program includes on-going upgrade and sustainment of a suite of aircraft and mission-based training devices, including full motion flight simulators, mission simulators and maintenance trainers. The CMHP Training Engineer will report functionally to the Engineering and Technology (E&T) Technical Training Manager and technically to the CMHP Training Program Manager. The primary location of work will be at the customer site in Shearwater, Nova Scotia. The secondary location of work will be at the Lockheed Martin Canada site in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and dynamic manager who will invest their energy and focus on shaping relationships across a diverse Customer, partner, and subcontractor stakeholder group to ensure in-scope training requirements are realized. To enable success, the candidate will possess a deep understanding of engineering processes and proven ability to deliver quality work on-time and at-cost.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Deriving, developing and documenting technical requirements for training devices, ensuring alignment with platform requirements, occupation specifications as required;
  • Integration with product teams to ensure solution alignment;
  • Reviewing and analyzing supplier developed technical solutions and documentation, including system architectures, designs, acceptance test procedures, test reports and sustainment solutions;
  • Overseeing technical performance of supplier led design, development, product installation, test and sustainment activities;
  • Developing and defining test plans for training device qualification and acceptance;
  • Performing oversight of test execution during all test phases;
  • Supporting sustainment activities through analysis of data, identification of training device technical problem areas, provision of support to program obsolescence program, provision of support to program engineering change process, and development of technical solutions for training device issues;
  • Participating in proposal preparation, including developing supplier statements of work, writing supplier technical requirements, preparing basis of estimates, and writing technical volume inputs; and
  • Preparing for and participating in a multitude of working groups, program rhythm and governance meetings to resolve issues, adjudicate misalignments and provide advice, mitigate risk, maintain schedule and deliver quality products and services that meet or exceed program requirements.

What you bring to the role

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an Education-related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree; or 4 years of professional experience required with a related PhD;
  • Broad understanding of Royal Canadian Air Force operations, occupations, training methods, media and environments;
  • Strong technical skills in systems, software and/or test engineering;
  • Demonstrated experience performing technical oversight of supplier development, test, and/or sustainment efforts;
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong customer relationships;
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) and able to communicate effectively with suppliers, external customer and internal leadership about technical status/issues;
  • Ability to work effectively with geographically dispersed teams and military organizations; and
  • Existing government-issued NATO SECRET Security Clearance or higher.

Additional skills desired for the role

  • Experience with Air Force operations;
  • Knowledge and experience in a training or modeling and simulation environment;
  • Experience with rotary wing platforms;
  • Experience with risk and obsolescence management; and
  • Proposal and basis of effort development.
