What We Do We enable Epic’s online services teams to build, deploy, and manage services that are used by more than half a billion players around the world. What You'll Do As a part of the eCommerce Foundation team, the Nexus team develops and maintains the core infrastructure powering our global messaging platforms. We manage various services and tools that enable player communications, engagement, SDK, and game messaging. Our work spans critical components like intelligent email, mobile push notifications, SMS, and real-time data transfer systems, enabling innovation for features like matchmaking, presence, friends, and text chat, ensuring a robust and user-friendly experience for billions of players worldwide. We focus on building scalable, secure, and innovative solutions, integrating with third-party systems, and providing administrative tools to streamline operations for both internal teams and external partners. We play a vital role in supporting business growth and enhancing customer engagement.

In this role, you will

• Design, implement, own, and iterate on scalable, secure, highly-available backend services
• Maintain code quality internally and from outsourced partners
• Communicate technical risks within and across the group
• Handle various real-time, complex issues on online services and platforms
• Maintain and improve operational excellence, including but not limited to observability, scaling, optimizing infrastructure, etc.
• Collaborate, own, and/or execute on product roadmaps, including but not limited to features, designs, milestones, and deliverables
• Follow industry trends and maintain a strong interest in cutting-edge technology

What We're Looking For

• Passionate about building and maintaining consumer-facing online applications that are secure, scalable, and highly available
• 8 + years of experience in building online services or web systems
• Ability to collaborate and/or lead cross-functional efforts in ambiguous environments
• Deep knowledge of the object-oriented language (preferably Java), design, and design patterns
• Deep knowledge of RESTful API design, implementation, and database systems, both relational and NoSQL databases
• Experience of utilizing cache, messaging, async processing, etc. in online services and deploying and running services on a large scale and in a mission-critical environment
• Experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS cloud services, Unix-flavored O/S, and a continuous integration / continuous delivery environment
• Experience in building messaging platforms is a plus, but not required
• Experience building scalable distributed systems
• Experiencing collaborating alongside stakeholders and other SMEs

Pay Transparency Information

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).

$187,634—$275,196 CAD
