About UBC Economic theory and Philosophy Society (EPS)

Research Services
11-50 employees

Founded by Anson Chan (BIE '27) and Anthea Ho (BA '28) in April 2026, the UBC Economic theory & Philosophy Society (EPS) is an intellectually driven student organization dedicated to exploring the intersection of economic theory and philosophy. Through interactive events, discussions, content creation, and a mentorship program, EPS fosters a space for rigorous inquiry into how individuals make decisions and how societies function.

EPS aims to make complex ideas accessible and engaging for the broader UBC community by both discussing theoretical concepts and apply it to real-world applications. Our initiatives, ranging from strategy game nights, social experiments, debates and podcasts and mentorship opportunities in our research lab, encourage members to think critically about decision-making in uncertain and strategic environments, as well as broader questions of ethics, behaviour, and social organization.

EPS brings together students, faculty, and individuals interested in topics such as game theory, morality, political economy, and behavioral dynamics. By combining discussion with experiential learning, the society creates an environment where ideas are not only examined but actively tested and applied. Ultimately, EPS seeks to cultivate a community of curious, analytical, and open-minded individuals committed to understanding the deeper logic underlying human behavior and societal outcomes.
